I think it's just for efficiency of design. While Jazz isn't supposed to have his headlights on his shoulders, he does have a cut-out detail at the tops of his shoulders shaped almost like them, so it's close enough for this price point. With this design, you get to use all that door mass for his forearms, unlike the original Deluxe, where you had the head, upper torso, and forearms all wrestling for the same physical space resulting in the forearms drawing the short end of the stick. Put the shoulders anywhere else on the car, and you have to create some sort of swing-arm structure to migrate them towards the front of the car.

Looks like ass. Hollow arms, backpacks... when did we start accepting shit like this as inevitable?

Wow this Jazz thread turned a Flak of Criticism towards the whole line in general. :lol :
It has become a comparison of SS Prime and HFTD Prime :lol :

But I love the arguments that i read. Both sides have a point
But at the end of the day, it's Hasbro's call.

The one toy in this line that's been in question which we can all agree is.. SS Prime.
You know Hasbro could've pull off a mass cheaper version of the MPM-4 from the mold of the HFTD Prime.
Like what they did for the TLK Wave 3 Bee.
Considering it has a WELL REPRESENTED ALT MODE compared to SS version.

One of culprits of why HFTD Prime doesn't have that much impressive bot mode (for some), is aside of the existing technology and limitation at that time is the Battle Blades Gimmick that ruined the bot mode.
Because of the Flipping Blades it sacrifices the truck's hood at the forearms and becomes inaccurately placed (to secure a space for the blades) compared to the SS version.

Now if they could've retool HFTD Prime by:
    - Removing the blades gimmick (and turned into an attachment like SS version does)
    - Add the current POAs (which now have)
    - New headsculpt (which now have)
    - A retractable Plastic-Rubber made of the long tips of the smokestacks (to make it non-breakable)
    - A proper flame decos in both modes

It could've been a different ball game for the SS Prime...
BUT NO. Hasbro tried to make SS Prime "to be different".

EXACTLY. 34 years ago. It's 2018. Why are we accepting toys like this?

Because you either accept that reality of toy manufacturing, or you get out of the hobby. You don't really have any options there.

Also, bad attempt at flipping the script there. That wasn't the question you asked.

Smokestacks stay short in truck mode, shoulder pads are fake (HFTD actually has the air filters) , the arm guard isn't accurate either, the toolbox goes in the thighs! but has that red diaper. I didn't like toe-less Prime, I just picked the leader one, but if having toes meant having mushrooms growing in the back of the cab 20180318_233123.jpg I'll happly take toe-less Prime

Smokestacks being long or short is more preference, and I respect that. For the shoulderpad, getting an accurate shape requires a false part and for the sake of accuracy I like that they did that, the forearm guards may not be 100% accurate but at least he has them on this one, and due to the fact that most people display their figures in robot mode (myself included), I’d take a kind of ugly truck bed over misshaped toeless feet.

I'm still not into it. My nostalgic attachment to the chunky deluxe 2007 Jazz with "Premium" silver paint job is too strong. Guess I'll just save my money for Blackout. Even though I had his "Premium" Voyager figure it was underwhelming cos of his (lack of) stature and goofy rotor gun. I remember having fun with him in vehicle mode though, and the tiny Scorponok was a nice play pattern when I was into Mini-Cons.

The backpack is definitely not as bad as it looked at first.
