First time ever in my life. Some extremely classy person took a package off my porch. Thankfully Amazon will refund me but, f*ck. I feel so, intruded upon (or something). It takes a real winner of a person to do something like that. We are talking an A1 top shelf human being! And they are evidently able to live with themselves to boot!
Yeah, I've had this happen to me a couple of times at the old run down apartment complex I lived in. To make matters worse it was Christmas presents for my daughters. Sure Amazon and Target were great about it, but you really never get over the feeling of having been violated in a small way. It didn't help that I was pretty sure I knew who did it, but unfortunately couldn't prove it.
That sucks man. Honestly, that's one of the reasons I don't buy stuff online. Unfortunately, in this world, you can't trust everyone.
Get a PO box amd have it sent there. Thats what I plan to do when I get an apartment. @Drangleic I’m sorry this happened to you, it’s so shitty. With all the expensive collectibles I get I fear this happening to me(not that anyone would understand their true value.) But you have my condolences. At least you got a refund.
I heard there was a kid checking mailboxes on our street recently. We’ve been thinking of getting a dropbox for packages.
I'm sorry that happened to you. This is why I have a p.o. box for all my online orders. But I also have a camera over the front door.
Man, I'd seriously consider leaving a "fake" package outside with a massive dog turd in it or an uncooked, rotten chicken just to see if that MF comes back to steal again. What a scumbag. I know it's an added cost, but I agree with Rod.74 - having a PO Box at the post office or a UPS store is worth the peace of mind.
That sucks dude. I had that happen to me a few years back. Nowadays, my carrier know not to leave anything on my porch. If it can't fit in the mail box, they'll leave me one of those notice slips in my mail box so I can go pick it up. I also get nervous when people use shipping companies like OnTrac. Those fuckers are inconsistent. They never knock or ring the doorbell. They just leave your package and go. Fuckers. Maybe it would be best to get a P.O. box. And leave some fresh dog turd or cat turds in a box and hope those porch pirates help you dispose of it.
Ugh, I'm sorry to hear it. Stealing is just plain wrong, of course, but it takes a special kind of piece-o-shit to steal a box with unknown contents, off of someone's porch. Sure, maybe it will be some electronic thing that can be re-sold, or maybe it's a blanket that a grandmother made for their grand-kid -- it can be something really personal (with only value to the person it was intended to go to) or maybe it's some sort of urgently needed medical device. I just don't get it -- how do you even gauge the risk vs. reward, when you don't know what you're stealing. But hey, these aren't smart people, so...
Sorry to hear that. We had one of those creeps prowling my neighborhood last year. My mother actually spotted him starting up the driveway, then opened the front door with him about ten feet away. He high-tailed it out of there and we never aw him again.
I've always been of the opinion that if people try to sneak up to steal stuff, you need to get yourself movement detectors that activate a sound system in the house. The sound of dogs barking tends to work on creeps like that. Just keeping the lights on in a single room also works since thieves usually come around when they think the house is empty. Or have the movement detectors light up a room to make it seem like someone noticed.
I saw a good number of videos on YouTube showing porch pirates getting their just desserts Highly entertaining...
People can really be buttholes... and they probably don't realize that stealing mail is a federal offense punishable by 3 years in prison and $250K for each offense. I saw a youtube clip where some dude's were setting up thieves by planting exploding packages that would leave a stinky smell and dye residue. Too bad you can't buy a couple of those and leave them on the porch.
...I kind of want to do that now. It's not even illegal to prank people like that, especially since THEY'RE the ones stealing the stuff.
Last year around ten pm, there was some guy was trying to unlock the front door when my dad opened the door showing off his revolver and the guy was like "sorry, wrong house." And ran away. Hell, last week, two teenage shitheads were able to move my dad's car from the driveway to the street but could not start the engine and 3 neighbors wake up early for work and stopped the teens and woke us up. I have no idea how they moved the car but they were never be able to start the car because my dad did something so only my dad and I can start it. Sorry that f*** wad stole your mail. I get worried that the same could happen to me which is why when the delivery date come, I stay home and wait for the mail carrier to come by.
One of my neighbors pulled a gun on a porch pirate. He said the guy started crying. Wish I could've seen that.
