Earth is in his left hand... but is he holding a chunk of Cybertron in his right hand?

Regardless of the quality of IDW's work, that is an insanely cool design.

    Sure looks like it.

Why is he so big though? He'd dwarf Primus and that doesn't make sense.

Yeah, a truce and a meandering soap opera side comic are fascinating stuff!

Pretty sure the chest bit is supposed to evoke Unicron Trilogy Unicron, who had a gigantic chest cannon to destroy planets with. As for everything else...No. Just no.
You're literally asking for storytelling to go back to being bland, generic, and not creative. Basically, going back to the OG G1 storytelling. And the political stuff from before Hasbro started making toys of IDW designs (basically, before Thrilling 30) was GOOD storytelling and didn't have some thinly veiled Liberalism in there.

I just thought the palm of his hand was part of the surface of his planet mode.
Who says Primus would be smaller than him? Primus hasn't shown up in IDW yet.

Also, maybe it's just me but i enjoy some of the "humanized" faces. they looked OK. and are far more emotive then say, the stupid prime faces which were just blank pieces of metal on most of the characters.

Primus and Unicron can choose to be any size they want :p  .
In this image he is big, so he can look cool while holding earth like a big burger. If he was small, it would look ridiculous.

In before the thread gets derailed by pointless complaining about social- DAMMIT.

Anyway, very cool design and fantastic art...

    ...buuuuuuuut....

    (Hyper-nerdy-hat-on)

When a being is this big, like Galactus or this Unicron, the human shape breaks down for me, logically. Why would he have legs if there is nothing big enough for him to walk on? Why 2 arms and a head with 2 eyes... etc.

Pointless nitpicking I know. Just feels like a being that big wouldn’t have a human shape. I don’t want the old FF 2 movie cloud thing, but...

It's unfortunate, because I personally loved the Game of Thrones-ish stuff for Transformers (the first 12-14 issues of both MTMTE and Barber's RID being a highlight for me), but the reality is that "bland, repetitive Autobots vs. Decepticons" is *way* more likely to sell better than the current continuity. There was an interesting anecdote on one of the sites I visited (I'll try to find the link, probably 4chan =) ) where a Hasbro exec was chatting with a friend about the comics and saying, "Did you see how weird this has gotten?" and not in a good way.

I'd love to see more of the political intrigue stuff too, but the market is saying they don't want that kind of thing. It could be that the greater comic market doesn't actually want *Transformers* anymore and it doesn't matter what reboot they do.

If this harder reboot doesn't work for IDW they're bound to lose the license anyway and we'll see *another* reboot at another publisher eventually.

Maybe on some of the larger stars? The Sun alone is already 1000 times longer in radius than the earth. Maybe Unicron has a nice mansion on Canis Majoris.

That's kind of a flaw that stems from how despite being an alien species, the Cybertronians largely adhere to the same kind of basic humanoid body structure as humans (but not all, I.E. Ravage). The robot form has to be distinctly different from the alt. mode, yet recognizable as SOMETHING or else you can't say it's really transformed.

Additionally, it does lend itself to a sense of both godliness and scale - because Unicron is human shaped, we get a feel for the proportions of his body parts scaled relative to his size. And that scale is illustrated by just being a giant humanoid who can fit Earth into his PALM.

I always thought previous versions of Unicron were way too small to be deemed a \"planet eater\". This is much more appropriate.
