That's cool and all, but if it were up to takara all we'd ever have was rereleases of old-ass toys. Look at the "movie the best" series. "Premium" decos of figures some of which came out less than a year ago for double the price, whereas here in the states we get the studio series, which is almost entirely new molds.

Takara's smoking crack thinking this is going to sell at that price point. Even if I hadn't bought the Costco exclusive 2-pack 10+ years ago for $80.00, there's no way in hell I'd consider this.

Hang on, that's not true. First of all, the Studio Series is a joint Hasbro/Takara venture that's coming out in both lines. Secondly, the Movie The Best line isn't anymore expensive than other Takara lines, includes some previously impossibly expensive on the aftermarket molds (such as Voyager ROTF Megatron and HA Soundwave) and even includes a couple of retools (like Lockdown, Grimlock and Strafe).

They're (Grand Maximus and Great Shot) not until the 31st, unlike this week's releases which are the 24th.

So it might be a little while still.

As much as I want this release of God Fire Convoy, life dictates I must wait. Maybe pay more later or less, who knows. But kudos to all who are getting this guy on release!

I so want this, but I just can't justify the expense with Dinobot coming later this year and I do still have the originals.

Absolutely fantastic toy(s) though for those that haven't ever had him(them) before. I still remember getting them back in the 2001 era and laying on the living room floor for what seemed like hours studying the engineering of them. The way they combine is just some damn stellar engineering, even if it leaves Magnus a little derpy in single robot mode.

Is it more than a remake? Never owned the original and didn’t get into Japanese transformers until 2017.

Shared engineering isn’t the same as a retool, and from what I can tell, Grimlock is entirely new. Studio series figures are mostly new. The point is that Takara will always rerelease old toys in favor of giving us new ones and it’s not something that appeals to me anymore. They’re rereleasing Metroplex, they’ve done the 84 Optimus Prime mold a thousand times, god convoy, the original fort max, this guy, etc for so long now. If you are happy then that’s fine but at this point I’m not interested in it one bit and it shows brand stagnation to me.

It's exactly the same molds, just in different coloration with not as much chrome.

Bummer. Looks like they used plain red plastic instead of the pearly looking plastic of the original. Still a killer mold though.

I misinterpreted then. As it looked too similar to the original. Thanks!

I wouldn't mind a minty fresh set of these guys, not sure at that price though. I still have my original set, even though primes tires split years ago. Plus I still have a sealed set of original plus a sealed set of the sams club exclusive ones where prime is yellow. So not sure I'll bite at these.

Oops. Guess I didn't look closely enough at the pictures when I said what I said about the plastic.

You are talking like Japanese exclusives are the only things Takara makes. both the TLK and Studio Series figures are designed by both Hasbro and Takara together and released the same from both as well. the Movie the Best stuff is to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the movie franchise, and to give fans who missed out on those long out of production molds a chance to pick them up in nice shiny paint. and reissues have always been a thing, how can you complain about this while not complaining about pretty much every platinum edition release? that line has both g1 reissues, repaints of old as shit molds, and is overpriced just like this reissue. there was also the commemorative series back in the day by Hasbro. I just think its silly to complain about reissues like Takara is only doing em now out of laziness or something, they've always been a thing in the brand.
