Looks good but still I still see the frown of Optimus Prime saying he can't build the Solar Tower.

Still thinking of my choices for a face with a face shield. I'm feeling Macross or a Patlabor Ingram for this guy on occasions.

It already looks significantly better and a splash of paint will do wonders for it. Can't wait to see the finished thing  

 

Curious to see if it's a whole new head or just a swappable face for the original bot.

 

That actually looks worse.
Like people complain about Skyguardians face and when they see the new version they wish they hadn't worse.

 

it doesn't look worse but why does he still have the double helmet thing going on? wtf? i'm not sure but it still looks like the eyes may be too thick like on the original skycrusher face. the one in the drawing looks better though.

 

It's like they just aren't understanding the problem. The double helmet and tiny face is why it doesn't look good, not the face sculpt itself. All they had to do was just make a face on the back of the mini robot that fills the outer helmet and it would look loads better. It's like they are stuck on the idea that the mini figure also needs to look good on other robots.

This new one doesn't look any better or worse to me than the original, and as it is I have no real reason to get one.

 

The body design is awesome but they suck at face sculpting...

 

I’ll second this, as well as @Rewind ’s comment that I don’t think it’s any better or worse. I guess I’ve just gotten used to the existing face and gotten on with enjoying the toy, rather than stay uptight about it. That said, that’s a lot easier to do since I’ve already bought the toy, if I were still on the fence I don’t think this new face would convince me to pull the trigger if I hadn’t already.

 

Right, and I should mention that at this point I am 'fine' with the stock head/face. If a better option presents itself, great, but the toy is delicious nonetheless.

 

Indeed. I know some people have a weird aversion to the term “play pattern”, but whatever you want to call it, having two cockpits shows a dedication to enjoyment that actually made me reassess my collection. I’ve ditched a lot of MPs that I only bought to have something to buy, and this figure made me take a closer look at stuff like Thunder Manus. I think Skycrusher and Thunder Manus are now in my top five in my collection, easily.

That’s why I cringe a bit when I see people say the face is putting them off buying this one. Totally their prerogative to feel how they want, of course, but I just hate to think of someone who might otherwise really enjoy the heft and playability of this figure missing out.

 

Because Skyfire had a double-helmet thing going on. They're not wrong, in concept, but the execution was a bit off. I think the new images look promising, and look forward to seeing the execution.

 

The new face definitely fills the helmet better. Sculpt looks soft though. Hopefully the final version will be decent.

 

Count me in the camp of optimists!. Really looking forward to this; I'm a sucker for head upgrade kits.

 

wish they would make a option for a NON headmaster SKyfire. That was the one thing that kept me from buying this great looking toy

 

Well, apparently you can leave the head attached for the entire transformation, so you could always just not use that headmaster feature. Someone posted pics of the figure using an extra face from Grapple (or Inferno, maybe?) and that wouldn't have a headmaster behind, so if you just glued something like that into the helmet, you've got the figure you wanted.
