The new Studio Series voyager Prime is quite a fun toy to transform. Love the design and ingenious engineering that went behind this version.

It's the same old discussion with MP1 and MP10 transformation. They re-use an upgraded working transformation to have a more faithful representation of the on-screen character, given budget and all.
For 30$ toys, they have to change the transformation a bit, to sell it to the new and old customers too.
They really don't give a yuk to recreate identically that 3-4 seconds of fake parts appearing and disappearing

Just got Prime and Starscream yesterday. Both are quite fun, but Starscream is the winner of the two. Prime may not be accurate as the HFTD voyager Prime, but he is way more fun to transform. Plus he doesn't have those annoying forearm panels that slide back down due to gravity. Every figure has at least one pro and con. Fortunately, fun is more important than accuracy for me.

Just curious did you ever have the DotM deluxe Starscream? Cause the two reasons I don’t plan on getting this one are that I already had and enjoyed the heck out of the DotM deluxe and this one is too similar, and also that it’s rumored that the next MPM is gonna be Starscream so I’m inclined to wait for that.

I feel like Voyager Screamer vs a potential MPM one would fit two different agendas. If you just want a good Starscream, I would anticipate that a MPM one would be better, and will most likely share some similarities with the awesome HFTD leader Starscream.

As for the Voyager- yeah, he's the deluxe without a doubt. But, in my opinion, the deluxe Starscream mold was a great mold, and one that really did a good job of giving us Starscream at a smaller scale than the leader class one. When you couple that with the improvements he gets from a sizing up, like some additional bits of greeble on his chest, better arms (balljoint hands finally), and his actual weapon, this is IMO the best Voyager Starscream to date and really my favorite Starscream to date. I feel that this mold only improves upon the DotM deluxe one, and would certainly be worthy of a purchase even if you own the deluxe due to that as well as the better scale.

Plus, while Prime is basically deluxe sized, Starscream is at the opposite end of the range and feels much more like a Voyager, so that's definitely a plus side.

On a side note I will be recording some video reviews for Starscream and Prime today, hope to have them uploaded and posted this evening.

Man it feels good to be into transformers again, here's hoping that this studio series line stays strong.

It’s the main reason why I’m probably not getting this one, but for those who never had the deluxe, or don’t want to spend the money on a potential MPM, or don’t want to wait, or just like the improvements, this sounds like a solid figure! Just ball jointed wrists and being able to look up make me want to change my mind though...

I wouldn’t mind an MPM Screamer that took cues from the leader figure, but I’d want them to compress the jet mode a lot more, add articulation (especially the things mentioned above that this figure has), and find a way to get the thrusters on his back, even if they are faux parts!

I gotta say, the Studio Series voyager Optimus Prime looks pretty awesome. Reminds me of the Age of Extinction voyager Optimus Prime & how that figure's movement/pose-ability is. I almost wonder if they made the highest wheels on his thighs not completely accurate (using the wheel hub as well) on purpose so that it leaves room for improvement &.doesn't hurt MPM-4 sales. But that's for another conversation

I'm sure that's not the case. They're two completely different size classes and one doesn't stand as a replacement for the other. My guess is that they were rushed to finish Prime for him to release on time for this line. Seeing how he's a staple in any Transformers line, they probably couldn't afford to wait to release him. If it's not that then it might be because of the rumored Jetfire integration.

Those are my hopes for MPM Starscream as well. The leader class one is so good already. I'm starting to wonder if I should go back from MPM4 to RotF leader Prime, maybe I'll just stick with least Starscream...
