ThinkGeek shipping is crazy fast, my record was just delivered.

EDIT: Oh, it's because it shipped from a warehouse less than 35 miles away.

I'm waiting for the soundtrack to unicron trilogy. ARMADA, Energon, Cybertron. I actually had the OP vinyl in my cart but with
Each track being just about a minute in length,
I opted out. If they had full length songs 3-5 mins each then yes, I would drop the $45.
Still if you got it....well done!

Lol, I love the sound effects :D  I wouldn't mind if they were left in, not at all. As far as the version of this theme song, from the pilot episode...does anybody have any more info on the differences? I can understand why it would have been different. I may have even noticed a bit when watching the DVD pilot episode, but I just remember it being a lot longer than the 'regular' theme. I would have liked all seasons to have the themes included, but that's where hopefully the CD will cover those angles.

As far as getting a record player just to play this disc? I would...hesitate :D  You think Transformers are addictive? Wait until you go down the vinyl rabbit hole...it's...well, it's fun but it's...addictive, very addictive :D  Personally, if I didn't own a player I wouldn't have bought a record, but it's a free country. It's cool enough for the artwork, and the first pressing dibs (which is quite important for collectors)...but still I can't be too critical, because it's a well known fact that over 75% of vinyl record collectors DON'T EVEN LISTEN to their records :D  Sounds nutty, I know, but google it, it's true. They're mostly nostalgic buys, or nice to have on a shelf...just like another hydrocarbon addiction I know about :D

The vinyl deteriorates when being played over time. So I rather listen to my vinyls digitally most of the time. I mostly play them when mixing. But I supported the artists I like as most of the stuff was only released on vinyl in the last and previous decade. That only changed later with Beatport.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but by all indications, the actual intro that we all know and love is "cut" compared to the provided link/track. The very beginning gives us 5-6 seconds of additional audio that was not heard in the original cartoon, barring the miniseries theory.

Uh... those have always been available. Two soundtracks for both Armada and Cybertron and one for Energon were released in Japan when the shows were on. Some great music, especially the second half of Armada. Granted they've been long out of print and they're not that easy to find on the secondary market today. But you might be able to find torrents of them around. I've seen a fair few.

I'd say that's pretty much par for the course. Most composers tend to reorganise their scores into an 'easy listening' experience. Even John Williams will hack out incredible parts of his scores for the OST presentations, so I'd say it probably was Walsh's idea. We can only hope a complete and thorough release will happen in the future. I certainly wasn't expecting that for the first release. It's pretty rare for any score, tv or film, to get a complete release right off the bat.

Wow, that went way faster than I thought it would. I missed getting the Megatron/Optimus variants due to a doctor's appointment but I read where it was said it would get a repressing so that's a good thing. Also a good thing I still have my grandpa's old record player from the 80s that still runs like a champ. While I don't mind vinyl, I do echo what some people have said in preferring a digital or CD release someday.

So... Since people are receiving their vinyl, has anyone uploaded or spotted the tracks online already? Somebody must have converted it to mp3 already, right? :)

I know if I paid $30 for it, I sure wouldn't put it up so people can have it for free.

I actually paid $40, including shipping to the Netherlands. I just don't have a means to actually play it, hence my question.

How come you only paid 40 and I paid 50? Netherlands is only 140km from here.

Ended up missing out due to, you know, working. *sigh* And I actually own a turntable to play it on compared to probably 80% of the people who bought a copy.

That's the spirit! Keep material that should be enjoyed fanwide all to yourself, because you paid 30 bucks for it! :lol  ;)
It's not just the audio material that you're paying for here, it's also the exclusivity of the vinyl as a collector's item itself that makes it your money's worth. Two out of three versions of this (already limited) editions are rarer than the other, and it's pressed on an obsolete (but still enjoyed by many people) carrier. Plus vinyl just looks cool.

Anyway, I'm 100% sure we will see a rip of this very soon. I'd gladly pay or donate money for an official digital download as I've done with other Transformers music before. But I guess for some reason it's not in the company's interest. The investment is probably not worth it to them? Shame, as a(n exclusive) vinyl release can co-exist perfectly with a wide digital release.

    Heeeeeeyyyy guys!

I just found out they're going to release the G1 soundtrack on vinyl!

Does anyone know when it will go on sale?!! (/sarcasm)

Yeah, I missed the party. (*sad panda*)
But it was fun reading the meltdown on Friday at least. Sorry to all you guys that went up for it and got burned. But maybe they'll release a non-special edition in larger quantities. (And like someone said, Soundwave and Blaster would make perfect sense for ver 2.0, just sayin').

That guy (Jimbo?) did a good job working to remove/re-edit the voice work and special effects to make a clean copy, I don't know what happened with his fundraising but if he hadn't started the ball rolling maybe we'd never gotten to this point.

Even though I don't use a turntable anymore I like that they released some of this on vinyl. Because,,,,

I'm calling out all you old school, OG DJ's out there. You got your masters on vinyl, I want to see your best Dance-a-Tron remixes! 2 DJ's going at it battle style would be even better!

Well heck, a brother can dream can't he?

I don't know that I'd really buy this, but I'm glad it exists. Have fun guys.

And good luck on future releases.

Well, thanks to having taken full advantage of a period in the early 2000s when vinyl was dirt cheap, I do have a functioning record player and have now listened to the album in full. The news is mostly very good. An excellent selection of favourites and rarities, with room left for a satisfying second volume.

The 'Transformers Medley' is a medley in name only, really - simply put, there just isn't a pause between tracks (possibly to save space on the record). Which is fine. There's barely even reverb missing. It also contains 'Transform and Destroy', an excellent piece, left out by even Jimbo's exhaustive restoration and the one track which I hoped against hope would be on here.

It is in stereo, although this isn't that noticeable, given the format, which hasn't allowed for the best fidelity - but that might just be my equipment or the sound quality on the original masters. There was always a softer, less distinct quality about some of the season one tracks.

The music that was used for both Transformers and G.I. Joe is, as suspected, entirely absent - which is good news for me as I liked it less, but may upset some. Pretty sure it was part of the remaster though, so we may get a release that is dedicated to it at some stage (if that doesn't cause too many rights issues).

The track 'Prepare' is, as I suspected, not entirely what we're used to hearing, seemingly cutting out early - but it seems to be that way on the recording as the reverb at the end of the track sounds natural. My suspicion is that the version we're used to hearing is actually a composite of two tracks, rather than one complete recording. There is a similar instance in the track 'Heavy Mettle', which appears to start someway into the version we're used to, but sounds very much like it was recorded that way and the two tracks were stuck together later.

Which leads me to the best news. By all appearances, the tracks we're being given here are (aside from being remastered) entirely untouched, to the point where whole sections that, to my knowledge, never aired are present. The track 'Overcoming the Unstoppable', most notable for being the music played during Optimus Prime's death scene in 'Dark Awakening' has some particularly nice easter eggs in this regard.

Many of the tracks which appeared too infrequently in their entirety for Jimbo to patch together a complete version are here in their full glory, limited only by the quality of the original master tapes. The masters do have evident flaws, but none, so far as I can tell, which weren't an issue at the time they were used to make the episodes. Considering they've been sitting in an archive for 30 years, this is something of a minor miracle and many of the tracks sound better and fuller here than they ever have.

I would, like most of you, like to see a digital release, in order to hear the tracks at their crispest on my Ipod/computer, but as an initial, prestige release (much like the theatrical release of a film), this is very fine indeed.

Are there season 3 songs on it? The nice synth songs? Those are my favorites and the one's that I really want. I have the movie soundtrack, but those tracks are a bit different from season 3.

There is a nice selection of those, yes. Not all the ones you might want, perhaps, but that's true of all seasons featured here. Admittedly, I don't think either of the tracks adapted from Vince DiCola's score for the movie are here, but that might be a rights issue or they could just be saving them. For example, the music during the launching of the Ark and Skywarp's subsequent rebuilding aren't there, which seems like a no-brainer, but I'm fairly certain we'll get it eventually. The strongest evidence being the omission of all but one opening theme. If this was the only release they intended, I reckon they'd at least put the end credits music on it.

Saddened to hear there are none of the season 2 tracks on it, but after seeing the track listing I'm not surprised. A separate, digital release coming soon hopefully...

Did you buy from the Thinkgeek website? I heard the Enjoy the Tunes website had some pretty high shipping costs, so I went with the other one from thinkgeek. That is pretty much the only difference I can think of ;)
