Well, it hides vehicle kibble well without much shell-forming, and considering how few TFs these days even have kibble...

 

...Add in the repaint PTSD everyone got back in Combiner Wars and the uprising of shared engineering from Titans Return and you get an understandable "I've seen this before" feeling, albeit amped far past eleven.

 

From pics I feel that Barry and Lockdown are sufficiently different, but I am definitely getting a real sense of deja vu with most mainline TFs these days. I gave up on the prime wars stuff halfway through combiner wars because of that. If a TF doesn't surprise me with the engineering then I grow tired of it pretty quickly, even if it's otherwise a decent figure. Taking design cues from another figure when it's a successful idea is fine, but I am very uninterested in anything that shares more than 50% or so of a transformation scheme. Even MPM-04, which I love, hasn't been transformed that much due to its similarities to the old leader transformation, which I've done a million times.

Anyway, even with shared engineering more figures is still better than less figures so this line still excites me and I'm definitely gonna get that Lockdown! It's miles above the shitty wrecker-knockoff OG deluxe, and way better than the ripoff of THAT figure that was their recent poor excuse for a hot rod.

 

Definitely picking up Lockdown to replace AOE deluxe

 

I'm just so incredibly stoked for Lockdown's new head sculpt, the old one was so ugly and inaccurate. This new one isn't limited by a face-

this one doesn't have a face gun

 

And I'm glad. As distinct a gimmick as the face gun is, it's kind of a worthless toy gimmick because he just stands there to use it. And because engineering it would be a nightmare, you don't even get a neat transformation. I'm so glad he just comes with his melee weapons. (I wish he had his arm blaster too but oh well)

AOE Lockdown was the only TF figure I've ever returned because it was just so bad. The head sculpt was a big contributer.

No, Tons of people said Lockdown was a remold of Topspin, simply because they both have their legs formed from the entire side of the car.

 

Lockdown's arms formed the sides of the car. His legs went inside.

 

You're confused. AOE Lockdown, the original Deluxe from 2014, shared a transformation scheme with DOTM Roadbuster, and people thought they were retools briefly. But they're not, and World Prime didn't say they were. He just referred to the terrible choice of TF scheme copied form RB.

DOTM Top Spin actually copied TFA Lockdown's transformation scheme, because TFA Lockdown had his legs run the length of the car and his arms fold up into the back.

 

I know this too, but I'm going to keep saying AOE Lockdown is a remold of DOTM topspin, just so RodimusSupreme can freak out again

Anyway, this new Lockdown looks cool, regardless of what aspects he may share with other toys. There are only som many ways you can make a sports car into a humanoid. I don’t give a shit what term you use.

Anyway, whether it's shared engineering or retools or shared parts, whatever, it works quite well with Lockdown here. Can't wait to have him.

I get the feeling this Lockdown will be retooled with a new masked head and gun that can make his gunface eventually. I highly doubt this Lockdown as is, will be the last we see of it.
