I think we need to start getting the word out that they'll be doing a reprint (supposedly). Maybe we can at least stop SOME people from funding the wallets of these asshats.

Five per variant per person. So you could theoretically buy five of each for a total of ten.

 

I ordered Bumblebee because I got caught up in the hysteria and I am a sucker.

Thinkgeek is charging 30 bucks, and then shipping is another 9, and tax. Or I could get it sent to the store and save a whole dollar! Why on Earth does "send to store" even cost anything? They can't piggyback a record onto their regular shipment?

 

It's 210 dollars now.

Ebay is to blame. A quick complaint to stop any item selling for more than retail should be flagged...would work for concert tickets, but they dont enforce their own rules. Why would they, when they make more money letting scalpers have free reign? Doesnt work for toys though...or anything else. Although i would like to flag a sale of an Misb Prime with the 17 dollar price tag from 1985!

 

I'm astonished the Bumblebee variant is still in stock at Thinkgeek.

Got the Optimus version. At noon I refreshed the page a few times but kept landing on the coming soon. Did a search on their page for "transformers" and it brought up two links: the "coming soon" page, and the product page.

I'd say if they did some more, Soundwave and Grimlock are no brainers along with Starscream.

 

I would totally buy a cassette release that looks like a Cassetticon.

I dont think i had to pay tax as im not in the usa, but i usually get dinged import fees. Oh well, wasnt expecting a 50 dollar record but thats a bargain compared to the scalpers on ebay. I like what was mentioned earlier...if they confirmed a CD release, i would not have bought this. Im not that big of a score TF vinyl fan...i mean, i still gotta complete my Iron Maiden and Judas Priest vinyls, ya know? Priorities!

*side note, i always prefer black vinyl over colors, although its not that big an issue. Picture discs are where its really hit or miss...most of mine sound like ass, back before I even knew there was a difference.

They should get on this. There have been a number of limited edition cassette releases for other albums in recent years.

 

Yeah, despite my good will towards ETR for actually releasing this (and the fact I managed to nab one of each, despite a little bit of faffing at the payment stage), I think the 5 per customer thing was a mistake. I think they did grossly underestimate the market. I can see why, given the pretty lacklustre response from Twitter, but that's more to do with their fairly small Twitter reach and the fact that Hasbro and Sony did fuck all to help promote. To be honest, I think most of us were a bit surprised at just how quickly it all went down.

There's only so much you can do to stop people buying this stuff to sell on, but at least make them go through checkout multiple times if they want multiple copies. That way the people who're just after one for themselves get priority. Certainly seems the way to go for such a limited release.

And the last minute price increase was a bit of a dickish thing to do, even if the original price did seem surprisingly reasonable.

Still, there's much to celebrate. They've seen the demand, so there's likely more to come - and the Bumblebee version is still available for those who didn't manage to snag the others. I'd call that a win, over-all.

I know Transformers is popular, but it baffles me that La La Land Records' 2-CD set of the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe music is still available to buy, TWO YEARS later. That music is just as good as the Transformers score.

Just goes to show it's more about the collectability angle.

 

Got the Bumblebee flavor. I wasn't particular about which one, I just wanted one. Glad I didn't stress over it, I didn't know what time they were going up and I figured if I got one, it was meant to be. Sounds like it's a real bloodbath, though.
