So, today this happened. I emailed Stephen Davis, president of Hasbro Studios, suggesting to use G1 characters and he actually replied to me. Hope they will actually take it into consideration all of that G1 for the reboot. Let's see.
Neat, I like that. Should Vehicons and Vehibots be used as cannon fodder? Just to keep up some Robot carnage without killing off half the main cast like Michael Bay did. Not a crap ton of them, obviously, just a few to keep up the destructive action on both sides. But obviously to keep from too much Bayverse antics too. What do you think?
Basically I'd go with a mix of elements from Dreamwave, IDW, Animated and Prime. From Dreamwave: - Terrorists uncover the arctic-buried Decepticons and reprogram them as WMDs while the Feds manage to find Optimus Prime. - Spike Witwicky is an embittered mechanic after the space-mission death of his dad, and is recruited to revive Optimus. - Megatron ices Sentinel Prime with his bare hands before the Transformers arrive on Earth. - The chief human villain is the murderously-war-tech-obsessive S.O.B. who blew up Spike's dad's shuttle. From IDW: - Megatron and Starscream's first meet-up on Earth is a throwdown that does not end well for the latter. - Megatron and Optimus's first meet-up on Earth is ALSO a throwdown that does not end well for the latter. - The Ark's at the bottom of a lake, serving as the Autobots' base of operations on Earth. - Megatron starts out on Earth as a tank, and uses facsimilies to operate among humans. From Animated: - The gigantic Decepticon ship chases the wee Autobot ship to Earth in the past. - Optimus Prime is a novice leader, subordinate to horse's-^$$ Sentinel Prime. - Megatron has been playing puppet-master on Earth for years. - Jazz is an Elite Guard operative. From Prime: - MECH, under ex-Special Ops man Leland Bishop, absconds Cybertronian technology for its own ends. - The Key to Vector Sigma ends up in the hands of the human hero. - Optimus dies...for a few seconds, then gets a wicked beef-up and comes back beating the hell outta Megatron. - The Nemesis comes with a messload of Vehicons.
Honestly I'd still prefer character driven combat as well, but to keep entertainment up (and satisfy the sheeple) it is somewhat necessary. Honestly, in the actual film, as long as character deaths (perferablly no names) doesn't go past 25% what was done in the Bayverse films. But honestly character driven combat, for me, trumps that every time.
that actually sounds great for a bada$$ new TV show rather than a movie. I'd love to watch that, it'd be great. It actually would be nice for a younger Optimus and get Kaye back on it. Give Peter Cullen a bit of a break, he's been REALLY busy as Optimus lately. Plus who ever did Megatron's voice in animated would be pretty cool too. I'm assuming the "terrorists" are MECH? Who would be in your roster for both Autobot and Decepticon (and/or other)?
Right? I couldn't believe myself when I got the reply, and he replied actually quite quickly. We all know that the new Bumblebee movie will be the old Beetle, so guess this was the message that he sent in the email that I would be surprised and really enjoy it. Now, we can only hope that this movie will be successful and that they go back and make the G1 characters like they used to be. That will be just fantastic. Even if is just for a small trilogy of live action movies. Fuck it, even if it's just one epic 2 and half hour movie I would be pleased
I suppose it's greedy of me, but I hope "VW Beetle" carries onto the reboot movie. Maybe not the vintage Beetle specifically, but a modern version would be fine. I get that Bayverse Bee is essentially his own character that only shares minor traits, and about the issues with VW(which were totally understandable on their part) but I never felt the Camaro was a great fit for him. EDIT: Welp, so much for that idea, I guess. LOL
It would be awesome if the reboot's main Autobot cast we have either Arcee or Windblade or better yet both as the main female leads. I mean seeing as how movies like Wonder Woman are doing amazing they should take a few notes from that and strive to give female TF characters larger roles
More seriously speaking... ...toss out a film continuity starting with a 2007-ish/1984-ish vibe. You can have Transformers, animated or live action, on the screen for the first time exactly ONCE. You're never getting that nostalgia back, so don't pursue it. Instead, I'd rather see something more Season 3-ish/Season 4-ish/Age of Extinction-ish/Later Marvel Comics. Insane Galvatron. Quintessons. Junkions. Punch-Counterpunch as a spy. Beast-like Transformers and alien beasts. I don't want "More than Meets the Eye" or "Heavy Metal War." I want "Webworld" or "Call of the Primitives" territory. To further subvert fandom expectations, I'd have it get more "normal" as time goes on, that way new fans of the new continuity can complain about the deaths of old characters and Optimus and Starscream and Sideswipe "ruining" the Transformers movie universe. And of course, I would have plenty of Transformium pixel transformations for Unicronian Transformers and other strange sub-groups, except I'd make them more numerous and diverse. I'm talking both the KSI cube transformations as well as infernal, fiery Transformium transformations and Earthy Transformium transformations that make it look like the robots turn into dust, and even the Lepre-Con Cloverkill turning into four-leaf clovers and gold nuggets. Because Transformium is awesome. There would still be traditional transformations, but I think any reboot should seriously consider having them.
I have a few Ideas Firstly no Hasbro cinematic universe- It worked for marvel because Marvel and DC always were a universe with dozens of crisscrossing stories at a given time, Hasbro and all the others, they don't they are self contained franchises. I like transformers but I'm not a fan of GI Joe and until IDW started using him I'd never even HEARD of ROM the Space Knight. Secondly Yes return to more classic style alt modes (Ratchet and Ironhide sharing the same basic alt mode, one as a minibus one as an ambulance, COE Optimus and compact car bee) but not always (not Pistol Megatron or Cassette player Soundwave- the mass shifting doesn't make sense outside of the cartoons.) Thirdly, Make Megatron the main Antagonist again. In ROTF, DOTM and TLK Megatron was effectively the second in command to the new big bad (Fallen, Sentinel ,Quintessa) and his actions in AOE are basically just background to Lockdown hunting Prime. This isn't right, Megatron is the biggest villain in the franchise, Put him in back in the main villain role and show him the respect he deserves. Fourth, show off the proper gimmicks, the ones when a gimmick was in the show- combiners, triple changers, supermode optimus, give us these properly, for Megatron it could be used to settle the Tank vs Jet debate.
I agree. Having Unicron part of earth robs us of the joy of seeing the chaos bringer in all his glory without sacrificing our planet. Also on the human front why dont they do what every franchise since G1 season 3 did and have the humans bee Kids/Teens. Instead of the crude humour and sex references we get more of a kinship between the kids and bots.
Agreed. However having very little kids in movies either backfires horribly or works just fine. I’d reccomend teens....assuming they’re listening to any of this stuff that is.
Galvatross Fortunately there is a large amount of fans that prefer G1, so it would work. Whether they should make it a complete G1 Live action, meh, it should be a combo. The Pixel/Transformium gimmick was cool, and I agree that with primarily Unicronian transformers should do (something like) that. It would be BA, unfortunately though Hasbro also has to sell figures that transform. Last time they did one of the pixel ones, it became a nightmare (until the recent Stinger figure) for them to make a “close-to-screen-accurate-as-possible” figure for him. Honestly the way Transformers change do robot to vehicle, and vice-versa is a concept that is not always a good idea to deviate too far from. Also it didn’t make sense if they can be killed like a regular transformer if they can just turn into pixels. However if some rule could be developed on how to hurt/kill them, I think people would be way more open to it. If you got to develop the rules for pixel/dust transformers, what would they be? But it’s intereting enough that it should definitely be used in the future. Also a TF Cinematic universe... hell to the YES! Agent 53, I see what you mean, and I primarily agree with you. But Galvatoss has a point that te cinematic universe wild probably help the Transformers. Assuming it’s taken care of properly that is. Yeah, Megatron I supposed to be the big boss, no one else. However I prefer the truck for Ironhide honestly. Rather and Ironhide shouldn’t be that similar. I think most fans can agree on that. However if they did do the minibus, which one would you want them to use. Also these are just my opinionated comments, take from it what you will. Any other thoughts?
Keep in mind I'm definitely not saying eliminate traditional transformations. However, I'd say Transformium and the KSI transformations were extremely underrated concepts that I'd like to see for the following reasons. 1) They look cool in my opinion. 2) It makes sense that human-built Transformers would lack the complex transformations of Cybertronian Transformers. 3) Unicron represents chaos, so it would be neat to see his heralds have similarly chaotic transformations. 4) The idea that Transformers are made of a programmable metal whose molecules can rearrange themselves to create new structures, textures, and colors is the best explanation in the brand so far as to what Transformers are made of, especially given transformers gain new alt modes by scanning.
