Hi there folks! I'm considering buying myself a statue, but I wonder if statues are easy to resell in case this day comes. I ask that because you never know if you might need to change country or something unexpected might happen, especially considering that statues usually costs 1000+ dollars. So yeah, this is my question. Thank you!
Buying is almost always easier to do than selling is. When third parties are producing transforming figures that are getting close to being as big, elaborate and detailed as statues 4-6 times their price, it's very, very hard to imagine a future non-transforming Transformer statue aftermarket that will give you a favorable return on your investment several years down the road. If I were buying one with the expectation of reselling it one day, then I would get a canon version of the character (like OP with Roller) vs an original, stylized 3P design because canon would probably be more recognizable and appealing to collectors.
it does make sense, but for instance, there's nothing close to this Prime 1 studio mold. And the only one that I can think of that gets close of that statue from Imaginarium Art is the Ultimetal Optimus Prime, that also cost almost 1000 dollars.... and it doesn't transform, but is fully articulated.
I just looked it up. That's a good example. I see MP10 with the kind of thighs I like on ladies. Prime 1 Studios statue reminds me of this one. I feel like there was one or two last year that looked like that, which is kind of another problem with these things accumulating value: there's a myriad of Optimus Primes out there to choose from. For yours to be worth something then someone has to want that one. You may like the posable statuettes from Hot Toys or Toys Alliance? Hot Toys at least comes with brand recognition among collectors and an existing aftermarket that doesn't have competing 3rd parties.
Yeah, Hot Toys is big know brand, but Toys Alliance is not. Btw I do own the MAS-01. And even here in the tfw forums, the majority of comments that I read about the XM Statues is that "this is what the movie should look like". I think there was even a comment by you like that Now yeah, I do understand that taste is a very much subjective thing, but XM Studios is growing into a well recognized brand in the statue space. They have about 3 instagram pages. One of them with 41 thousand followers against a little more than 200 thousand from Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectables (the biggest in the market). What I want to know is if they are easy to sell, how is this statue market because this will be my first (and possibly only, although I wish I could have all of the TFs that XM will be doing.) statue that I will own.
That one is from Imaginarium Art. Is out right now. If you want, better go fast and grab one before is too late. The other one, the one that I want is this here from XM Studios: And yeah, that one behind him is a freaking awesome Starscream: Very much unfortunate I can't get both, but damn.... this Starscream is looking awesome. They will also make Bumblebee, Megatron, and Grimlock, but I don't expect those to come out until 2020.
True. *Love that and the fact that the set is Cybertron falling apart. If those those XM statues will be released with some good timing between them.... I might be able to grab not only Optimus Prime.
I'd look at these pieces as art - they should mean something to you, and do something for you, and that's about it. They are going to be cumbersome to move, and they will take space to display. I would not count on making money off of the sale in the end.
As a buyer, at that price point, I'd be worried about buying a used one - used could mean cracks. Also the seller may not ship a statue with the proper padding. I'd trust a BBTS or TFSource more for packaging and returns if the item was damaged. So selling it as used might be tricky unless you have a good price. Also, the pool of people willing to buy a $1000+ statue might be small.
Is not like I want, or that I'm buying them for making a profit and sell just after buying, but in life circumstances things can happen, and I don't know nothing about this high valuable statue market. That's why I question here. Well, in case retailers are still selling, I agree, but usually these get sold out. But yeah, got your point.
I've seen a lot of high end statues sell on Facebook Groups for between $500-$1000 often enough to say that yeah, you could probably sell it if you find the right buyer. It's not as fast as selling a figure though, and if you have to be brutally honest about its condition pre-shipping, and ship that like a baby. The new statues are wicked cool though.
I know! I actually had some thoughts about the Imaginarium Art version, mostly because of the trailer and the roller. Optimus Prime looks awesome there too, but i was looking for a more unique take on him. That's why I chose the XM Studios version. And between Imaginarium Art and Ultimetal Optimus Prime, I think I would get the Ultimetal. Highly detailed, fully articulated, and he talks! But yeah, right now, XM Studios
I'd think the resale market for these statues all around must be rather small as most who want them and can afford them buy them new. Far me the price is a huge turn off. They are awesome but i feel they are over priced for what they are.
