I'm still all in on this release but some order information would be nice. The new video clip has 'March 9th' displayed at the end so I'll assume thats the release date.

I think the soy boy hipsters are the reason for the return of vinyl cuz they never had records as kids. As an old-schooler, I completely embraced digital and never looked back. The ONLY good things about wax records IMO were the larger album art and the occasional \"Picture Disc\" or specially colored/shaped records.

    So yeah, gimme the CD.

What even is a soy boy? And what’s wrong with vinyl, they’re nicely made, look nice, and usually have better sound quality than CDs.

EDIT: This also is the third time you’ve posted this.

Where are the preorders??? I want a golden disc!!

Also I’m 43 and have a record player. I don’t own a lot of records (the ones from when I was a kid are long gone and my generation was more into cassette tapes). I prefer the versitility of digital but if I’m sitting in my living room I enjoy putting on my TFTM soundtrack or my Weird Al collection on the turntable (connected to my surround sound) and relaxing.

Well, to be fair, to me it seems most of the issues voiced in this thread aren't with the vinyl format itself, but with the fact that it's apparently not being made available in other formats as well.

If some people love vinyl and have a record player to play it, that's great, how they play their music is none of my business. But IMO taking something that fans have been clamoring for for years, and releasing it only on vinyl, doesn't make good business sense. It automatically eliminates a huge portion of an already niche customer base, as most people don't own a record player. I don't have one, I can't afford one, I don't know anyone who has one, and I don't have the money (or the room) to buy the vinyl release solely as a display piece. Additionally, the only time I ever listen to music is in my car, which pretty much rules out a record player anyway.

As a retro video game fan, I totally understand the need for that "tactile retro" feel. I much prefer to have my older games on physical cartridges or CDs to play on the original hardware, rather than digital downloads. But I also understand that the majority of people don't have the equipment to play the old carts, and that they have to download from XBOX Live or PSN to enjoy the games.
So I won't be throwing my money at the screen without a format that I can actually use. And that kills me, since I've been waiting for this soundtrack ever since Rob Walsh hinted at it over a decade ago.

Sorry about the reposts. Had to reboot the browser a couple times and must have had the submit page open.

And google "soy boy". You'll either LOL or smash your computer :)

Yeah, they confirm that in the comments of the tweet. Apparently it'll be on hand, ready to ship on the 9th.

I thought I was in the 21st century, have I travelled back in time? How am I on the internet.

    Vinyl nostalgia freaks....

I get stuff on vinyl only if it's not available anywhere else.

Everyone knows that this will be mastered digitally then put on vinyl right so it won't sound better than a ditigal version, objectively.

Still looks cool and I might buy one

Actually I just realised this fits Hasbros mo.

Like how they release a new mold but not as the character you want, but you buy it because it's a new mold. Then later they release the same mold but it's the character you want so you have to buy it again.

So they release this music but not in the format many people want so those that would prefer a cd or digital buy it because it's new content. then later they release it on cd or digital and they have to buy it again.

Assuming they aren't subjected to heat, sunlight or water, I'm pretty sure Ill be gone by the time the CDs deteriorate.

Any format, awesome I hope Sony releases the Minidisc version, if not I will have to get the 8 Track and dub to MD.

Fair and good points, and I totally agree with you, releasing this soundtrack on a nonmainstream format is terrible business practice.

I do hope that the Vinyl is accompanied by a digital release so that we all can enjoy those sweet nostalgic tunes.

While vinyl has a cool nostalgia, two big points make me hope for a cd OR BLU-RAY surround sound mix (since they had the full orchestra tracks from early seasons.)...

    1. I can't play records in my car, on a jog, on my phone...
    2. The limited space on a record would mean omitting songs, and I want the COMPLETE 1-4 seasons.

All that said, I'm super stoked that they are revisiting the old soundtrack. If they put it out in a current format, I will indeed buy it.

I'd have no problem with them offering a vinyl release if there was also a CD version, but to me putting remastered adio out on vinyl only makes as much sense as releasing a remastered Transformers the Movie exclusively on Betamax. Pretty much limits the market for the item as well. Hopefully if nothing else they will at least get a digital release down the road.

I'm holding out for the cassette release. If it can't turn into a warbling mess from being left in a hot car, I don't wanna hear it!

No, really, digital release or CD please. Digital preferred because almost all my music listening is through an MP3 player in my car, but if I get a CD I can at least rip it. Vinyl is a no-go for me. I haven't had a record player for almost eighteen years.

So nobody commented on the fact that this record contains 45 minutes of music. The combined seasons 1, 2 and 3 from Jimbo's remasters total over 3 hours of music. So I'm glad we're getting an official release, but this is very far from complete. Maybe there will be a G.I. Joe soundtrack as well that contains many more tracks that were shared by both shows?

This is one of the times I'm glad I still live with my parents, as my mom still has a fully-functioning record player from around 2010 or so! Though I definitely still want a CD or digital release.

It’s all personal preference, but if you want to get technical about it:

They don’t have ‘better’ sound quality. Especially if they haven’t been mastered properly or end up pressed to coloured vinyl... then they actually sound considerably worse than their CD counterpart.

From a technical sound point, CD’s actually have a much cleaner sound. They can reach higher and lower frequencies that vinyl can’t without causing distortion.

Vinyl sounds ‘different’, not ‘better’. Reason being if something has received a proper analog master for the format, a lot of those frequencies that would otherwise be left on the digital master end up being cut. This is why people often describe vinyl as sounding ‘warmer’.

Anyways, even a proper analog master is rendered useless if people are listening on those cheap USB turntable setups.

Yeah, I was thinking that might be a possibility. From what I call tell, given the track titles and the order in which they appear, I'd guess that roughly the first ten tracks are the ten, in order, that make up act one of More Than Meets the Eye part I (although Explore! Repair! is named after it's second appearance, in act two), provided they've used the Season I version of the theme. After that, I reckon it'll be a sort of greatest hits, but with a rough season-by-season chronology to it. The titles of the latter tracks certainly seem to bear this out (from the Season-3-suggestive 'Synthesized Magic' to the outright obvious 'From the Secret Files of Teletraan II').

If they devote an equal (or similar) amount of tracks to each season, then season 3 fans will be pleased as it had the fewest original compositions, (so far as I can tell), meaning more favourites are likely to be in there. Season 1 would probably have the roughest go in this scenario as it has the most compositions and probably the highest threshold of memorable pieces, since season 1 pieces were used throughout all 4 seasons. Also, the seemingly indiscriminate nature of the first 10 tracks would push out some classics from the running.

If, however, they opt to prioritise certain seasons over others, the obvious season to compromise would be season 2, as so many tracks were shared with G.I. Joe. Remember, when this release was first mooted (this time around at least), Walsh reportedly claimed that a number of series, including G.I. Joe were to have their scores released too. Dividing the season 2 tracks between releases would make a lot of sense for a number of reasons:

    A) From a purely mercenary point of view, it means that punters have to shell out for two LPs to get the full range of available Transformers tracks. Same goes for G.I. Joe fans.

    B) From the fans' perspective it means that, barring a more comprehensive release, more TF tracks become available, which is all to the good.

    C) The TF/GIJ crossover tracks generally don't contain any of the leitmotif for either series which keeps them relatively generic and, arguably, less iconic - meaning they can serve a similar function now to what they did then - to bolster the score where necessary, without clashing with the rest of it.

Personally, I find a lot of the TF/GIJ music to be a bit plodding and, well, militant, unlike the active baselines and melodic virtuosity of a lot of the compositions specific to Transformers. So my ideal would be that most of Side 1 be devoted to the original Season 1 compositions, with the best bits of seasons 2 and 3 filling up Side 2 (favouring the rocking, synthy sounds of S3, if possible.)

Jimbo's restoration project covered 181 tracks and, even then, was not entirely comprehensive, meaning this LP will likely only cover about a fifth of the TF score (maybe a third of the memorable tracks). But it is by far better than nothing. Also, if a CD or digital download is forthcoming, it will likely be with a different label, as Enjoy the Ride/Toons seem to be pretty much exclusively vinyl specialists. This means two fairly important things:

    1. There is no reason to believe that this will be the complete extent of music released. It will almost certainly have been based on how many tracks could fit onto an LP. Remember, according to Walsh, EVERYTHING has been remastered (with the exception of the 'generic rock-disco theme'). If it gets released through another outlet in another format, they would have every reason to take full advantage of that.

    2. You can not count on ETR/T for ANY information regarding subsequent or concurrent releases in other formats. If they're happening, they'll be through a different company - which they will not likely wish to promote, PARTICULARLY if they're selling an essentially competing product. They make their money from vinyl. They may not even know about other release, let alone want to plug them.

Well, that's a lot of typing I've just done. Can anyone tell I'm excited?

That sample sounds so good and I'm surprised to say that as its season 3 but it sounds great.
