I need to measure a neck ball joint and it needs to be precise...any ideas oin whats the best way to do it? Also I just want to confirm that when designing a ball joint, the apex of the point should be just past where the ball will insert to lock it into place right? Thanks in advance
Yup, you can get a caliper cheap at harbor freight tools. I use a digital one, l can't imagine it cost more tgan 20 bucks but bought it long ago.
Just checked on Amazon for digital calipers. There's options as cheap as $10 and as high as $50. Seems to me that I spent around $15-16 on mine and it works great.
I just printed my first try on it and the ball joint socket was a little small. Any ideas on how better to design this? I have the measurement for the ball joint, but when designing the hole, how do you apply it? I'm using tinkercad which has you create a sphere and remove it from the design. Any ideas?
You generally need to add in some tolerences rather having ball & socket exactly the same size, either make the hole diameter .2-.4mm wider than the ball or experiment with scaling the socket up/the ball down a few % to find what works for a good fit.
