Here's LLL's existing catalog of stuff from the DC universe: film music | movie music| film score | DC Animation

There's some out of print stuff they've done as well.

As for non-DC animation, they also released the aforementioned He-Man and the 60s Jonny Quest music.

I'm excited this is finally getting released, but I've been waiting for the CDs. Vinyl only means it is going to be useless to me.

I guess picking up that turntable a little a while ago was foresight and not impulsive. :)

Hopefully this isn't one of those limited runs that sell out before I can get through the checkout screens.

La La Land Records will announce their March CD titles on the first of the month (or a day or two after). Let's all keep our fingers crossed for this coming Thursday March 1st. I know I am!

Update - MV Gerhard just ruled La La Land Records out of the running.

"As for Transformers, we have no rights to the series. Would love to do the cd. Maybe some day

    MV"

So if it's coming on CD, it's coming from someone else.

It's really counterproductive if it's really coming out and no one knows how to get it. I want my pre-order nao

Thanks to this thread, I found out who is releasing the album. I messaged Enjoy The Ride to inquire about a pre-order and they said there is no pre-order, but they will be announcing the release date on their social media accounts on March 6. I just added myself to the mailing list so I don't miss out.

At this point it looks like there's not going to be a CD. I am keeping my ear to the ground and have heard nothing. Hopefully I am wrong and we are all surprised at some point this year.

This is great news! But I'm confused by the vinyl released. I'm baffled hat Vinyl has resurfaced at all. I don't get it. What's the reason or purpose of Vinyl in a digital age? Will this be available in any other format? The only record player I can get my hands on is about 40 years old and I'd be lucky if it still worked half way.

    A) vinyl still has the best sound quality
    B) they probably thought it would be nice to have a golden disc
    C) you can still buy modern turn tables as they are still used by regular folks and djs
    D) there are even turn tables with usb

But yeah, I'd also prefer a CD.

I'm sure those interested will have spotted this already, but Enjoy The Ride/Toons have posted a sample of the music with a neat little promo. Listened on some decent headphones and it doesn't sound like the audio quality is all that amazing, but the quality of the actual remasters may be considerably better and they just used a low-quality version for the promo. Either way - it's still the first clean cut of music I've heard from any kind of official source, so that does suggest that Walsh's story was, at least in part, true on this occasion, given that ETR/T have stated its his remasters they're using. Fingers crossed the quality on the actual release will be higher. I believe he said he was remixing in 5.1, whereas the uploaded clip isn't even in stereo and the sound quality isn't all that different from Jimbo's restoration project. I remain excited though. At least it's happening. I do have a turntable, but for those who don't, I refer you point 'D' of the above post. I imagine it will ease a few minds.

It is good to hear a season 3 track! Here's hoping that a download will be available at some point at least.

I don't think I'm going to spring for the vinyl, but if they decide to do a digital release, I might give it a look in.

...no, vinyl suffers measurably, demonstrably inferior sound quality, but it enjoys a nostalgic tactile charm, can’t be copied, and deteriorates over time, so record labels absolutely love marketing pricey high-quality masters and collectible pressings on the media...

...it’s completely backwards newspeak that compact discs have been deprecated in lieu of lossy digital and ephemeral physical media...

A record is cool and all, but the only people I know that buy records are in bands. A while ago some cats on Kickstarter reassembled the G1 soundtrack/score from episodes and other sources. You can download it for free. Download it and blast the disco tune.

Well... Not true, really. They sound ‘different’, not necessarily better. Vinyl can’t properly replicate a lot of the higher frequencies and lower frequencies cleanly, so sounds sitting in those frequency ranges often have to be cut for a PROPER analog master, hence why people often say it sounds ‘warmer’. Obviously when everything was still recorded and mastered on analog equipment and vinyl was the main format, this wasn’t as big of an issue. Once digital recording/mastering became the commonplace, the shift had to happen. (This is why older albums often received the ‘digital re-master’ treatment, to take full advantage of the new undistorted ranges of a CD)

99% of the music recorded now, and has been for years and years, a digital recording with a digital master. Quite often that exact same standard LOUD brickwalled digital master for the digital/CD release is pressed to vinyl anyways, which pretty much renders the point of listening to the vinyl version pointless, especially on those gimmicky USB turntables. I mean, it’s really up to you to decide what you prefer, but in these cases, all you’re getting it’s just a worse sounding version of the CD.

In order to actually get the full benefit of listening to a vinyl, it needs to start right from the mastering process, (some would even argue the actual recording process). You need a proper turntable, with a proper arm and needle setup (which are very expensive to buy new, unless can find a used diamond in the rough. Those USB turntables are generally very poor quality) and a proper amp to run it through.

When it comes to new releases, unless it specifically says ‘mastered for vinyl’, it properly wasn’t.

It’s extremely expensive to get a proper analog master done, which is why it doesn’t happen for every vinyl release, and why you get these gimmicky coloured vinyl/picture disc releases, because the sound quality is less than desirable anyway. Nice to look at, too harsh sounding to really listen to and fully enjoy.

Who knows what they’ve done with this release until we see it/hear it. But seeing as it’s a coloured vinyl release, it would kindof be a waste of the format if they went to all the trouble of doing a fancy analog master.

Anyways, there’s a far better articulated version of everything I just said here, in this Vox article.

CDs are still better than vinyl

The problem with that Kickstarter project is that all tracks were created from the best mp3s they could find:
While the Restoration was certainly an impressive effort, and clearly the best collection of G1 music thus far, it's still got it's share of sound issues (the Season 2 opening is outright terrible, somehow sounding worse that a straight DVD rip.) This official collection, vinyl or digital, has the benefit of using original tapes for mastering. There's just no question as to whether or not to buy it.
