Well I got my pre-order in for the physical copy at Gamestop. BTW, phyisical copies of the game is so far an exclusive to the PS4. It is also an exclusive at Gamestop/EB Games at a limited release and a few retailers in Latin American countries. Secret of Mana PS4 Remake Getting Limited Physical Release - IGN
I don't mind the voice acting given the main character. He is supposed to be just a kid in his early teens at most so the voice seems fitting. Now i will admit there is room for improvement but i can deal with what we heard in the trailer. Mind given the conditions of the release i will likely never play it.
ill wait for a sale...or a Switch release (if it ever comes out). I wanna play it but havent touched my PS4 (gamewise) in months.
It's been getting a few lackluster reviews. Typically, they're lamenting that it doesn't preserve the atmosphere or attention to detail of the original music and pixel art, leaving the game fairly bland. I was sorta afraid of that based on the trailers... but I'll still probably buy it at some point after it comes to Steam.
I bought it off Steam myself on release day, and to be honest... Basically if you have the SNES version, this is basically that game with a fresh coat of paint. The only really new things are the voice acting, and when you sleep at the inn, your trio of characters will converse with each other about whatever has been going on plot wise. Kind of like in the Tales of games when they're traveling. In terms of other thoughts... I've only gotten to the Pandora Ruins so far, but for the most part, I will say I also notice the bosses are a bit easier to beat somehow at least the big tiger monster in the forest was. Also, nice that the options allow you to change the music back to the SNES versions because honestly, I think most of the remake music sucks.
I was cautiously optimistic about this, with the original being a childhood favourite. I miraculously got my hands on an SNES Classic recently and have been playing Secret of Mana constantly. Having watched some gameplay footage of the remake, I'm a little underwhelmed. I don't have any strong feelings about the updated graphics, the original's pixel art is nicely detailed and hits on my nostalgia a bit, but otherwise is fairly generic. The polygon makeover in the remake hasn't blown me away or turned me off. I do appreciate that everything moves smoothly; the SNES game has a lot of awkward stutters and delays, some deliberate quirks, but many related to performance issues. So overall, it seems like I would've been happy to get the remake...but...the music. My god the music. What have they done to you? The original's soundtrack is so charming and pleasant. It would have been so great to hear faithful orchestral renditions of those chiptunes in the remake. Instead we got some nightmarish abomination of low fidelity synths screeching at us. Thank goodness the remake has the option to use the original music. As it stands, I'll stick with the original, and maybe pick up the remake whenever it gets a generous discount. So, basically, I agree with this.
It's out already? For some reason I thought the Steam release was coming later. Maybe I was thinking of Ys? Eh, whatever. I'll grab it at some point.
