I'm glad he's leaving the franchise. I hope they bring on somebody that can actually give us a good TF movie, something that has not happened since TF1. In fact, I wish they just got someone else to direct the films after TF1. TF1 had a lot of potential to be built off of to make something great, if someone better than Bay was hired on.

Sometimes I honestly like to just think that TF1 is the only canon film.

TF1 sequels developed Transformers franchise more, than all its 25 years history before them. I even must say, that actual meaning and so distinctive style came into them right on ROTF and you missed. Movies grossed billions of money and attracted millions of viewers. They gooked thousand of fans across the world. Amazing toys were produced and even more amazing to come, because of third party. Transformers Movies became an actual perfection in terms of action movie. Neither Avengers, nor Star Wars didn't reach it even close. Transformers became a firm part of modern sci-fi culture. If Michael Bay is not good for you, but good for millions of people - think, may be the problem is in you?

And this is an opinion. I'm glad you can get that enjoyment but for me, I find a lot to be desired.

Ok, no problem. That's not only my opinion. Millions of viewers and thousands of fans are already happy with TF Movies! And you can't ignore this. Of course, you can say, that thousands are unhappy. But the differece is the Movies ARE ALREADY EXIST. And they are (at least first four) EXTREMELLY SUCCESSFUL. You can't ignore this. You may want a new ones, but you will never avoid the influence of the old ones, because people already like them. We, russians have a good phrase - it is better to have a small bird in the hands, than a crane in the skyes. Although, OF COURSE - you'll find 1001 arguments against me. We need @CKPRIME to stop you. I'll go to sleep.

All I'll say is be careful what you ask for. As an example, look at the last two Star Wars trilogy films. The Force Awakens and the Last Jedi. The Force Awakens directed by JJ Abrams set the tone for what was supposed to be better explained in the Last Jedi. It let fans and all audiences expect to have something said about Rey's parents and Snoke's identity at the very least. Then Johnson took the helm and put the movie into a totally different direction and it pissed a shit ton of fans off. Now, no one knows if episode 9 will be nothing more than a shit show, even though Abrams is supposed to be doing that one, or...if somehow Abrams will be able to salvage the hot mess that Johnson did.

So...if someone else directs the TF movies...history might repeat itself. Just saying.

I think we should remember that anything can run out of steam. If being super popular was enough to sustain a brand then I'd still be able to buy GI Joe figures at my local stores.

It's possible that it's time for Transformers to move beyond the Bay era to whatever we get next. While that will be sad for some fans there are other fans pinning their hopes that the post Bay era might be more of what they were looking for.

I have to ask - how much worse could it really get, and still maintain Hasbro's approval?

Worst case scenario: new director makes yet another terrible live action TF movie and kills the series. It's already stagnating with a terrible reputation, I don't think more Bay movies would help.

Well, we'll never know until a new director takes over. If one does. As the saying goes, "Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse..." But that's not to say that there won't be a portion of the fandom that will still like it, and conversely there will be a portion of the fandom that won't. You can't please everyone, and you're never going to upset no one. It is what it is.

I actually love the Bayformers series. So no, it's not that the movies "aren't for me". Bayformers introduce me to Transformers and got me into the universe. I still rank it among my top continuities. I think that TF1 stands as the best entry in the film franchise and every one since then has failed to improve upon it. They're entertaining to watch, sure, but that's about it. They're interesting ideas executed very, very poorly by inept writers and Bay himself.

Lol, and Michael Bay did to TLK just like what Johnson did to TLJ. It's a whole different direction than AoE.

The reason why I think Michael Bay should not direct TF6 is because how bored he is when directing TLK, resulting the most boring transformers movie. And for Paramount, since Michael Bay really got a lot of "bad" reputation, and TLK didn't even reach $650M at box office: Having Michael Bay to return to TF6 might not be a good idea for box office and to bring people faith in watching TF6

The reputation TLK and TLJ received aren't on the same level.

TLK is a showcase of what happens when the same director is on board and can't be bothered with the concepts that are presented from the story. Thus resulting in a boring Transformer movie. Look at what happened with Peter Jackson after he decided to make three Hobbit movies.

TLJ on the other hand needed to show a change for Star Wars and that of course, surprises Star Wars fans. It didn't answer fan questions but it did help its characters grow. Johnson cared about what he was creating. And since J.J. is back for 9, there is a chance to pick back what was not answered for one last time.

I understand that, but that's also the whole point of why I used the Star Wars Franchise as an example. Although the correlation may not be on point 100%, it still stands to reason that if another director came on with his/her own "vision" for the TF franchise as Johnson did with the Star Wars franchise, then..."it could be worse." Right? At the same token, it might turn around and be well received. We'll never know until it happens. And since history likes repeating itself, that's why I said to be careful what you ask for. Because you might just get it, and it may not necessarily be what you wanted/expected.
