EDIT 3: The Opening Ceremonies Have Begun! Find Them HERE! In 2012 there was an idea. To bring together all the readers and creators on this forum and celebrate the best of the best in webcomics. It was bold, it was brilliant... but after one year the awards faded away. They were forgotten, ignored, left to be little more than a sticky thread that no one paid attention to anymore. The forum continued on, creators coming and going, milestones achieved, and yet the awards never returned for a second year. But to quote the great philosopher of our time... "Fine...I'll do it myself" -Thanos The Funnies Awards will be taking place the week of March 4th, 2018 and hosted by myself and the cast of 'Hearts of Plastic: The Life and Times of Transformer Toys', who were the big winners at the last Funnies Awards in 2012. These awards will honor the spirit of the original while also streamlining the process and making it more fun for all involved. We will be honoring new comics, old comics, great characters, and have a full week of fun, laughter, and celebration of what we do here on the Funnies Forum. This year we will be present awards in Five Categories. The criteria to be nominated is that the comic must have been updated at least 3 times in 2017 and the character must have appeared in at least 3 updates in 2017 Best Webcomic, Comedy Category Best Webcomic, Drama Category Best Main Character, Comedy Category Best Main Character, Drama Category Best Author Insert Character, All Categories In addition we will also be awarding for the first time this year The Thundercracker Lifetime Achievement Award. For this award ANY webcomic that has been produced on the forum, regardless of update, can be nominated (but can only win once). This award is to recognize the comics that helped define this forum; be it for design, humor, drama, setup, memorable characters, or just because they achieved a milestone few reach. The awards season will be kicking off TODAY and run through all of February before we arrive at the big week in March. The Timeline for the Awards this year is as such: Feb 8th to Feb 13th: Initial Ballots will be tabulated by myself and the final ballot created Feb 14th to Feb 27th: Final Ballots will released for public voting Feb 28th to March 3rd: Final Ballot results tabulated by myself March 4th: The Funnies Awards Opening Ceremonies March 5th: Winner of Best Author Insert Character announced March 6th: Winner of Best Main Character, Drama announced March 7th: Winner of Best Main Character, Comedy announced March 8th: Winner of Best Webcomic, Drama announced March 9th: Winner of Best Webcomic, Comedy announced March 10th: Winner of The Thundercracker Lifetime Achievement Award announced The winners for the 6 categories will each receive a Funnies Award graphic listing their comic's name, the category won, and the date, which they may display on the first page of their comic. Final Notes: To keep things fair here are a few guidelines: 1- Bribing of viewers for votes will be frowned upon. There were claims back in 2012 that creators were trying to gain votes by threatening to remove characters or do epic events but only if they won. While this was in good fun for the creators who did it some saw this as trying to rig the vote. As such while it won't remove you from contention I do ask all creators to be honorable to each other 2- The decisions reached are final and not up for debate. I will share the ballots if forced to but will not tolerate people attacking me if your comic didn't win. 3- Please use this thread to discuss the awards but please don't put your ballots up here. I ask this only because it might influence others... for example, if they see Comic A has a ton of votes they might choose to nominate Comic B, not realizing Comic C and D are beating A and by not going with their first choice A is left out of the Final Ballot. 4- Have fun! You are welcome to post strips and panels here reacting to the awards and, if your comic wins, post your acceptance speech. The voting begins... now!

Judge's Note: So I have been asked if my webcomic, Hearts of Plastic, can be nominated for any awards. Yes, I will allow it. For the sake of fairness I am recording every ballot and who voted and, should I win any catagory, I will reveal the balloting process so there is no claims of rigging. I have also been asked if partial ballots can be submitted. Yes, but once submitted you can't come back and add to it, so if you wish to skip, let's say, the Thundercracker Lifetime Achievement Award, you can't change your mind later.
So glad to see the Funnies Awards coming back! I haven't read a lot of stuff lately so I can't cast a vote, but I really enjoyed voting and being nominated in the past, and know it's a big honor. Good luck to everyone that's posting currently!
This might just be my opinion, but perhaps next time this is done you should shoot for a greater degree of categories, like "most impressive use of photoshop", "best introductory strip", or, in the case of a comedy, "best running gag." There's quite a few aspects that go into a webcomic that deserve recognition.
It is something I'll consider doing next year. This year is a trial run to gauge interest and how smoothly things go
The ballots are slowly coming in and there is plenty of time to get your voice heard! We currently have a 2 or 3 nominees that are 100% locked in to appear on the ballot so your ballot still will carry a ton of weight. Will you push someone over the edge to being one of the big three in their category? Or will you introduce the first vote for a surging sleeper? The only way to find out is to send in your ballots!
Honestly I hadn't realized the awards were on hiatus so to say, but seeing them return is pretty amazing! A lot of readers (including me) forget to comment as often as we could, so this is a great way to show appreciation to all the content the site and community gives us. Thanks for your efforts, and happy voting to everybody.
Votes are still slowly but surely pouring in. Just a few more clarifications: 1) If there is a tie for third place to get on the ballot I will be the tiebreaker with my vote, and I will only vote for those that are tired. Otherwise I will not vote for a category at all. 2) If there aren't enough nominees for all three categories I will only do two 3) You do NOT need to vote for all categories. If you want to just focus on the comedy ones, that is fine.
Reasonable enough, I intend to fill in as many categories as I can before the deadline, hopefully a couple of days before. Already picked a couple.
For those curious where we are at with the nominations... -We have three nominees for Best Comedy with 3 other comics only 1 vote away from forcing me to do a tie breaker -We have two nominees for Best Drama with 5 comics fighting to get the final slot -For Best Character, Comedy, we have two nominees with 2 more fighting for a slot -For Best Character, Drama, we have NO guaranteed nominee and will need me to do tie breakers to fill up the slot. -For Author Insert with have two nominees with two characters fighting for the final slot -For the Thundercracker Lifetime Award we have 2 nominees with 4 comics fighting for the final slot All it takes is one ballot to totally change what the ballot will look like! Only a few days left so make sure to turn in your ballot if you haven't yet!
