Grimlock isn't...horrible. POTP Grim is better, but this one is all right. Would impulse buy.

The others are still butt. I understand wanting to get in on the budget market, but wasn't that the point of things like Cyberverse? And despite the size and simplicity of those, they were better in almost every way than these.

These are bad. If they were meant for kids, the bits wouldn't be so fiddly and fall apart so easily, so any kid young enough for these to appeal to wouldn't be able to keep them together. Kids toys are usually simple but they should be able to take some play to. The only thing I will say is that Grimlock's dino mode is maybe better than the POTP version.

According to current exchange rates, this is close to $12USD in the Philippines. Anyone remember the stateside MSRP?

This is pretty much the size of a small voyager for less than the cost of a deluxe

Authentics/Evergreen should stay separate from generations , given prior rumors and leaks and act as the budget line only imo.
Though I love the designs , I'm getting bored of them receiving more attention than other series. As far as we know , POTP is the last subline for Generations and though I'm open to more "collector friendly" versions of these designs , they shouldn't be front and center

These are aimed more at Dollar Stores in the US. Those markets are growing while TRU is in bankruptcy and the big box stores are buying less action figures. The traditional action figure market is getting younger at the same time, as more and more children would rather play with their phones and home consoles. A ten year old kid that gets $20 a week allowance is spending a lot of it on game apps not toys. Toys are for little kids.

We all tend to have different experiences because our kids see adults excited about action figures. Most adults don't buy toys for themselves. Their kids don't either anymore. The average 10 year old wouldn't want to own a Masterpiece, much less a Generations toy. That is the reality that Hasbro is dealing with now.

That's why the mainline cartoons and movie lines are cheap and filled with gimmicks because really young kids are their target now. Younger than ever before.

Their Generations toys are aimed older and do sell well, thanks to adults and children of those adults. These designs are solid and will get toys in that range, as well as the dollar store variety we see here.

Does anyone know what kind of head joint style it uses? Is it ball jointed or rotary?

So what you're saying is you tell your kids what toys they're allowed to like.

POTP is the last Prime Wars line, not the last Generations line period. They have plenty of obscure characters left to dig up and at least two more Titans (Omega Supreme and Scorponok).

Honestly this Grimlock looks a lot like Pretender Grimlock. I'd be okay with a Pretender-style Jazz toy...

They've also said that the lines after the Prime Wars trilogy will use engineering from the trilogy, and also that we may see stuff like the triple changing headmasters that weren't made yet with them also compatible to POTP and TR. Same as how any new combiners done will be compatible to Combiner Wars too. So I think it's safe to say Generations isn't going away anytime soon, and that they indeed will cover more characters that the trilogy didn't reach and are already planning that. They've also said they already have the next 5 years worth of material planned across several lines. So unless any plans have since changed, we're good.

One can hope we'll get things like Pretenders, Seacons, new takes on BW characters, the Horrorcons as you mentioned, etc.

I bought on impulse 3 of the Universal Studios/Walgreens exclusives. These look roughly like those in terms of size and quality. I sold/gave them away almost immediately.

Brief discussion point, sure. But these simply are not 'Generations' figures aimed at our attention. That is likely why there exist distinct sublines to Generations these days. Prime Wars is the popular G1 line that is clearly aimed at collectors. Generations is expanding, so it needs subline distinctions.

Another example on the opposite side of the price spectrum and most certainly for collectors is the new Mega Action Series, this subline is also Generations.

2018 ; Not year of the Dog ; Year of the Sub-standard Grimlock toys.

I don't mind these things existing so long as there is a fire wall between them and Proper Generations toys ; I don't want them dragging the brand quality down into the gutter with them.
I'm much less impressed with these than I am with the South American Stuff - the only thiing wrong with that was a few missing joints - these things are super hollow and Knock Off looking (no insult to KO's intended).

I will likely buy them if only because they are so terrible I find them facinating. I expect they will get clearanced with in an inch of their lives just like the lower end of RID does. I don't actually mind the designs it's just the implementation that is poor.
