Glad to see I'm not the only one who liked the Throttlebots head sculpts. Rollbar in particular oozes character. I'd much prefer to see him in the role of Kup.

Growing up I was never a fan of faceplates and thought Optimus Prime's G1 toy head looked more creepy than heroic.

    Always thought Kup looked ugly.

I like the young bots like comic Slapdash, Nightbeat, Hot Rod, Blurr and Bluestreak.

Pointblank and Sureshot looked cool in the Headmasters series.

I hated and still do despise facial hair on Transformers. Though Sentinel Prime is one of my favourite characters in the Baymovies and I always liked Scourge.

I didn't like the animal heads on Beast Wars Silverbolt and Waspinator though I liked them as characters.

Rattrap looked silly with teeth on his robot face.

I really hated Bulkhead's head design though I liked his Animated portrayal.

I always liked Prowl's animation model and his blocker box art.

Titans Return Quake and inner robot Skullgrin look great to me. Ruckus and cartoon model Gripper too.

    G1 Shockwave
    G1 Wheeljack
    G1 Soundwave
    G1 Omega Supreme
    G1 Bombshell
    G1 Optimus Prime
G1 Powerglide (always liked the slightly different look of his faceplate and almost squinting angry "eyebrows")
    G1 Warpath

Obviously I'm a fan of the designs without visible mouths and noses. Omega is an exception because of his permanent helmet / face shield.

Shockwave & Wheeljack are by far the most unique and my top favs.

Most characters from BW had pretty unique faces because of the way the CGI Models were constructed using individual shapes layered perpendicular to create depth and shape, rather than a smooth sculpted mesh like Megatron did for a "normal" face. They still ahd two eyes, a nose and a mouth, but they were often very... interesting the way these features were achieved. Cheetor and Rattrap for example basically use negative space for their eyes, and have entirely separate jaws where the armour around their heads fills in for cheeks. Honestly I chalk this method of face construction and animation for why the uncanny valley effect is avoided for the most part despite the show's age. The characters don't look at all human, even in robot mode where they've got "normal" faces, so there's no distinctions to draw. :lol

Then obviously there's TFA, but with a lot of character being heavily based on previous versions it's more like the style is distinct. They all look different (clones notwithstanding :p ) but they're not exactly crazy, out-their design philosophies at play.

Which funny, because my biggest complaint with Prime's style is how utterly generic and samey the faces and head designs seem. There's very little stark variation in the construction, amounting for the most part to the same basic design principles tweaked slightly between everyone. Starscream and Arcee especially are basically the same design slightly fudged into two different faces. The only faces in Prime I felt bucked these trends entirely were Bulkhead and Dreadwing. Hell, most TFPrime characters look like some variation of BW Airazor to me, yet BW Airazor didn't look like anyone else in her show.

It's like they all copied Prowl and Starscream from TFA, not dissimilar to how you'd see fanart when TFA first came out where a character was merely given and elongated, pointed chin to be "stylized." Almost every TFP character's face comes to a point or a narrow chin versus any sort of variation in design or angles. Some have pointy chins, and then some have not as pointy chins that verge on square, but no block chins or chiseled jaw lines or creative clefts to be found. :I

    TFP had awesome faces.

Plus, I always liked this elusive variant of OP's face:

I realize now that it came from a combination of designers misjudging some of the helmet proportions and forgetting to color in the scrunched face, but I always loved how alien Predaking's face seemed in the G1 cartoons growing up. It looked like a pair of giant fangs with no eyes at all, unless you count the Razorclaw lion head on his chest. Screenshot_2018-02-03-16-42-24-1.png

You know there have been a hell of ton interesting TF head designs but for some reason I've always been fascinated by the boxy ones they just look so... odd? Is that the word?

Overlord has got to have the one of the best faces I have ever seen. It's a great design.

Jazz. Oh boy, gotta love my Jazz. Later Incarnations improved it, but this is still a good one.

And of course, if these two images and my User avatar don't tell you who has my favorite Face design, don't know what will.
(Don't mind the different continuities, I like most versions of the Character.)

I like all of the Combiner's faces, they just look distinctive and intimidating for me.

    Faceplates are always cool.

    IDW Orion Pax.

I think OP agrees that in order to have a good look at a face, they must give it to us. :)
