The face and tabbing issues are drastically minimized when in hand.

That said, I imagine the finish on Apache is also drastically superior in hand also.

Personally, I'm so impressed with the transformation on Spring I have no urge to swap unless Takara makes their own eventually.

 

Getting it below market would certainly help. He does have a presence and looks good in bot mode. But I need more than that, and that misplaced green and yellow on his legs along with visible wheels irks me. If I am buying Springer, I am buying three modes that needs to look good, as I change up my display frequently. FT failed miserably here.

I still don’t think a definitive Springer exists yet, but O&P meets my needs until he does. FT is just too overpriced for a placeholder

 

Yeah, i'm going to get him.. waiting for Show.Z to ship me my other order, and if they turn out to be a solid place, i'll get this guy next.

Fanstoys version just doesn't justify paying twice the price...

Somebody will probably release a face upgrade sometime for a better face sculpt anyway!

 

ShowZ is reliable. Shipping can be slow, but he's a good guy.

 

That and a lack of paint is definitely the big cons for Big Spring, but I think the shoulder articulation and heinous car mode on Apache bug me more. I think I'm also a little more forgiving of flaws on a toy that only ran me $60. I can live with Big Spring for now and hope that MMC or XTB do better.

 

Well, my new face crumbled after sanding it down. I tried some sculpey after, but baking it warped the plastic. Now I have a faceless Big Spring.

A replacement face can't come soon enough.

 

I picked up UT Allen and O&P big spring for ~$60 each, so that satisfies my desire for multimodes combined with my laziness to frequently flip between modes to place in different displays around the house for a time.

Admittedly, FT Apache looks better in hand (I REALLY didn’t like early renders and pics), but not worth the price to replace my current options (at least not to me).

All that being said, what characters are next in the queue for Open & Play? If they’re going to stick with movie characters and alternate between factions, I’d like them to do blurr and the sweeps. UT’s blurr is slightly too tall and while I’m waiting on a deal for the rereleased xtb 3 sweeps set with accessories, O&P could do well in sales with those that want to troop build, provided the quality & price (& in my case, the accessories) are right.

 

I think Arcee is next. Someone posted up a drawing of her by them awhile back.

So I finally got around to buying Big Spring during a Thanksgiving sale, and I even more finally shipped my stack with him in it. Like everyone else, I've got the loose ab-tab. Instead of just reaching for the Future, though, I'm trying to figure out why the tabs don't lock. And I do mean tabs, as there's actually two squarish tabs inside his belly in addition to the one on the flap under his chest. After considering the matter, what I wound up doing is using a file to file down the entire back of the flap, both the main tab and the area around it with square holes that the tabs inside his abdomen fit into. And the result is... well, manipulating his arms can still dislodge it. The ratchets are strong enough, and the arm just winds up working like a lever. But it's definitely a serious improvement, to the point that I can lift him by the chest and it doesn't come untabbed immediately.

 

Anyway you can provide photo for your fix ?

 

Not much to take a photo of, but sure.

Basically, take a file to this piece. All around those two square holes, and a little to the bottom of the big tab, too.



The idea is that you want it to fit more snuggly over these two pegs.



And although it's an improvement, I'm hesitant to call it a fix, per se. It did improve things, but it basically went from seeming like it wasn't tabbed in at all to tabbed in, but still loose enough that the manipulating the arm acts like a lever that pops it back out.

 

But clear nail polish on those same parts? Now that’s a fix.

 

So I got this guy today and love him except of course the face. I tried to wedge a MP Inferno face in the head. I removed the eye sockets but still couldn’t get any of the Inferno faces to fit-much less as snug as the guy who posted pics on page 35. Can anyone tell me how to do this mod????

 

Has anyone stripped the paint on the face? What color is the base plastic? Greenish-yellow like the thighs? Might try to do a little re-sculpting like others did.
