I fondly remember combining Devy for the very first time! It took me six weeks to compmete him. I would alternatively wash my Grandmother's car and mow her lawn every weekend to make 5 bucks. Then l would walk down to the strip mall down the road that had a small Mom and Pop toy store. I would ante up and buy a new Constructicon every weekend til the ultimate day when l would see them merge to form the TOWERING Devastator! Aaaaaahhhh, memories!

Those guys look pretty nice. I personally don't have any G1 figures, but I can still appreciate them. Also, if anyone in Houston is dead set on finding a G1 Prowl, there's one in a comic book store on Westimer. He's $90.

Also, I'm thinking of buying some G1 Minibots.

That Devy is the best! Encore 20A anime colors looks fantastic, especially with the new head sculpt. My favorite Devastator for sure, great pics!

Love the little guy. It's amazing the difference painting his face and visor made to the toy.

It really gave life to it. Can see why James Roberts was inspired to write him as the comic relief with the little smirk.

The Fire Guts was my most loved repaint before the big repaint purge in 2012. To bad Nucelon quest never got a full repaint like Fire guts. Many of those G1 ehobby repaints are killer but I would never hunt them down again. A old picture of some of them.. I hade most and only missed 3 I think.

The G1 boxes were bad for accurate descriptions of the alt mode. We get generic labels like "dinosaur" instead of the specific dinosaur, "monster" for several (Terrorcons understandably but Seacons too?), then the we-want-to-avoid-copyright-infringement names like "4WD-vehicle". They left a lot for the fans to identify. The box descriptions are vague enough that they can be ignored.

    Doublecross- two-headed dragon
    Grotusque- sabertooth dragon gerbil
    Repugnus- giant mantis-like bug
    Horri-Bull- Gozer's demon dog
    Hun-Grrr- two-headed dragon/unlicensed ice cream dispenser

I just wish there was an easy image archive from Japanese kaiju film/tv from the 60s-80s to search to ID the lineage of the Terrorcons better (notably Blot, maybe Squeezeplay).

I was always confused by the box's description of Shrapnel as a "lamellicorn". I looked up that word and apparently, it's mainly used as an adjective describing an insect with lamellae, meaning a "flat, plate-like structure". There's no particular insect called a lamellicorn.

Are the Terrorcons really based on kaiju? Just curious, not something I know a lot about. And I always thought Squeezeplay was based on the HR Giger Xenomorph from the Alien movies.

Check out the beauty of a used, yellowed and worn Red Alert. Wearing his experience and his age like a medal, I really was kinda surprised to see the beauty in this one emerge when put under the spotlight.

Yeah, I was confused by the lamellicorn desciption too. It wasn't in old dictionaries.

Squeezeplay has a style that looks like it could be drawn from any monster-of-the-week from the Japanese version of the Power Rangers series or any other number of shows, or movies. It's armored with a bipedal posture (because it's probably based on a man in a costume), like a bipedal armadillo, has claws, but the head looks like a cobra-head made armored.

As for the kaiju, I noticed they seemed based on Japanese movie/tv show monsters, not necessarily direct copies, but in the ballpark. A multi-headed dragon (Hun-Grrr, Doublecross) brings to mind Godzilla's greatest enemy, King Ghidorah. Cutthroat seemed like any number of bird monsters. Rippersnapper's shark/prairie dog monster looks like it fits from 1960s/70s Japanese movies/tv as well. Blot is who knows what ("nose monster" as some call it), but seems mole-like. On the Seacons, Tentakil looks styled on a monster costume squid rather than an actual one. Snaptrap seems inspired by Gamera although the cannons of Snaptrap & Blastoise make me think they might have a common inspiration, some show that had a turtle/tank monster.

Horri-Bull is nominally a bull, yet has carnivorous teeth, not to mention claws, not hooves. Yeah, not any kind of bovine at all.

Just got these 2, Combiner crazy. Putting these figures together have been lots of fun. Still have to hunt down some of the smaller weapons and swords. Some need cleaning and new stickers but there is something sexy about the wear and tear. Defensor up next.

Abominus is a thing of beauty, ain’t he. Definitely my favorite combiner, and loads of fun to play with since he was built a little sturdier than the original scramble city combiners. The same goes for Computron, though Abominus’ articulation wins me over. Just not enough Terrorcon love in this thread...

Hungurr is such a great bot, probably the best torso bot of all of the scramble city group. I'd probably put Scattershot or Hot spot next.

My older son, who's now two and a half, has found a way to negotiate himself into my collection room. And out of my "Big 3" on display (G1/CHUG/MP) guess which ones he pulls off the shelves? Always.

Haha! When you’re a kid, why choose? Lightning can ride in the back of Prime’s trailer just as well as Roller.
