According to the TLJ guidebook, Holdo and Leia are best friends and go way back to their teenage days when Leia was still a Princess and running with the Rebels on the down low, with Holdo covering for her and helping her with secret communiques (smuggling info the Alliance). Eventually, both of them would join the Alliance full time, with Leia putting her full trust in her friend Holdo.

I actually saw it one of those Star Wars theory youTube channels (either Star Wars Theory or The Stupendous Wave). Yeah, yeah, those SW theory channels can be bunk sometimes but I still find them entertaining from time to time. :D  But Holdo's original design really reminded me of Leia's Hoth military outfit from ESB, and her race seemed somewhat Twi'lek-ish too, but with lighter skin. I figure Rian thought the ESB callback was too on the nose, and then decided on the ridiculous purple hair and cocktail outfit instead for Mon Mothma Mk II.

Ackbar would've been a fine leader while Leia was comatose, of course because his original VA died they just had to kill him off even though Tom Kane did a fine job.

Ackbar deserved better man, he was a friggin meme man!

That's the thing with ardent Boba Fett fanboys; I wish they would just be self aware and honest about why they like him: because he looked cool and had a cool name. That is literally it. And that's fine - love the character for those reasons and just own it. But stop trying to deny that the "biggest" thing he ever did was hide in some garbage and merely follow the Falcon, and acknowledge that, yes, he went out like a little bitch. All this "yeah... but... like, 20+ years later... they made him a super badass in his PAST... despite that NEVER being shown in the OT yada yada yada" buuuullshit. Lucas & co. had TWO movie's worth of chances to get that across, but they failed. And it didn't make things better by shoehorning him into a scene in one of the A New Hope revisions, or showing us that he was once a good Lil' Fett that got traumatized by holding Daddy Fett's decapitated head.

Hashtag we all got problems :p

Eh, that depends. People seem to forget that there was extra material before the formalization of the Expanded Universe in the 1990s. Fett featured heavily in the licensed material--especially in the serialized Star Wars comic strip. So it wasn't only 20+ years later that he ever did anything.

IMO, the worst Star Wars character is Jake Skywalker.

I like to think Del Toro's character actually has a superhuman ability to predict the future or various futures which is how he was able to meet them in the jail, break into that place and why he gave them up to the FO as that series of events were the best that were possible. Including saving his own skin. Maybe he knew the plan wouldn't succeed so manipulated the events to the best he could.

Either that or he's a secret bad guy who gets no pay off for his treachery

Speaking as someone who grew up with the newspaper strip and the Marvel comics, that means so little it's barely worth mentioning. It really was the cool look/voice/ship and nothing to do with anything he ever actually did. Well, the cool look combined with 3 years of waiting on the edges of our seats to see what cool things he would do in the next movie, Jedi, which turned out to be nothing.

I thought they were actually going to do something interesting with him for one brief moment, commenting on the folly of war and of believing absolutely in a "side". "They blow you up today; you'll blow them up tomorrow," or whatever it was, was a terrific, surprisingly adult line, but then they didn't actually follow up on it.

The fact that some people are getting so worked up over such a minor character suggests to me that a more pertinent question is does Star Wars have the most toxic fan base of them all?

I would say there is a correlation between the amount of time someone spends online and the likelyhood of them becoming a whiny impossible to please brat and it does seem like Star Wars fans spend a lot of time online.

If you have to ask this, then you need some time in the real world.

    1. EVERY fandom says that about itself.

    2. There are literally fandoms that riot when things go their way or go badly.

    Perspective, brah.

Star Trek is right up there, too, surprisingly. Somehow, I would have expected them to be more mature, but no. But really, what can compare to Hot Wheels fans?

In all fairness there is an entire universe of characters the movies haven't mentioned so it's hard to say that Boba Fett could not have climbed out of a dead Sarlacc because he hasn't shown up in the movies lately.

We haven't seen Lando Calrissian in a while. We don't know if Wicket is still around because we don't know how long Ewoks live and we don't know if Kylo Ren might have decided to take a bit of revenge for his grandfather. We haven't seen Luke's old Red Squad members around so we don't know if they died in some fight between films or if they retired somewhere. The fate of Jar Jar was never shown on film.

Sometimes you just have to run with supplemental material or fan theories because movie series can't always fill in every gap of whatever happened to so and so.

Transformers fans can be the same. look up the old beast machines topics on any of the fan sites from then. It got nasty at times. Plus "truck not monkey". Nuff said. Fans of any IP hates change sometimes. I have been like this at times as well so i'm guilty of this also.

He's free! (even though he is one who gave the empire it's power to start with!)
