I live within a reasonable distance of 4 TRUs. I guess it's fortunate i'm only losing one of those.

The TRU closest to me is closing. And the next closest is almost an hour away and I have to cross a toll bridge to get to it.

Guess my trips to TRU are going to become very rare.

RIP Toys R Us. Though I\'m kinda surprised Oregon had literally no hits to it\'s store list.

I'm very surprised about Northborough (That one being newish and nice= and Framlingham, but even more so about Bellingham that one has always been busy usually as its only competition in the area is Walmart. Oddly enough the one I thought was gonna close North Attleboro is staying

Two of three nearby TRUs are going to close where I am...

Also, one is in a so-called mall area that is already more than half vacated... It has... A Kmart, Burlington Coat Factory, and gym left. No idea why that place isn't just sold off to be torn up and redeveloped into anything other than a remnant of tacky early 90s mall architecture.

Not on topic per se, but they put a high school in one of the anchor stores and it's doing really well surprisingly, considering the rest of the mall is completely shut down.

Interesting that Oregon wasn't affected. One of the few in northern Oregon is basically tiny and shouldn't even count as ToysRus so I'm surprised that wasn't considered as a first target. The one nearest to me though is quite large and doesn't make as much sense.

A big one in my area is closing but they are leaving a shit hole one open. Im not bothered by the closing though, i very rarely shop at TRU anymore. Id rather save 5$ or more and buy from target or kmart. I dunno if the prices are the same in all TRU but the ones in my area are so over priced and they almost always would give me some kind of excuse as to why they couldnt price match something when i would try that.

Its been terribly mismanaged since the turn of the century. I hope it gets put out of its misery soon. Its long past due.

That Folsom location in California is actually a Babies R' Us, and I'm guessing that's the case for some of the other locations listed. There's actually a Toys R' Us Outlet Store in Folsom as well, and that store isn't even on the list, which is surprising. In fact, most of the Sacramento area locations seem to be okay for now. I didn't see the Citrus Heights, Arden, Elk Grove, and/or Roseville locations on the list, so that's good news for my area.

Hopefully, with the shut-downs, the remaining stores will be stocked more appropriately. Hopefully, they remember what made them so successful in the first place. I truly hope they learn from this... The fact is this was never a Customer Issue... The reduction seen in their customer base was not the cause of their downfall, it was the result, and I hope they understand this. This was an issue that started with their business practices, their management, their identity (or lack thereof), their tech, and most importantly their buyers.

If these stores stocked their locations according to their customer wants and needs while focusing on their local demo's they wouldn't be in such a dire position now... Instead, they chose to go the same route as most of their competitors (you know those same competitors that died off years ago). These Corporations continue to approach their individual store locations with a one-size-fits-all mentality, and that was never going to work. Yes, you absolutely need brand recognition, and uniformity within your business... But, that begins and ends with the store/web design and layout. They need to stock their locations based on their own individual demo's, and yeah that seems obvious but it just doesn't happen anymore. If they don't change this mentality, then it will only be a matter of time before the rest of their locations follow suit.

Then there are the issues with their website. Their website has been plagued with issues for years now, and they've done nothing to improve it. Hell, I just went on their site right now to check things out, and it is almost unbearable. They need to invest into their online infrastructure immediately... There's no reason not too, because that's their contingency plan if they can't maintain their physical locations. It's pretty simple, focus on the local market with their physical locations, while at the same time providing national coverage with a new and improved online system. Honestly, I'm a huge fan of the brick and mortar locations, and I will always buy in-person when I can. I really do love the hunt... So I'm rooting for them, but only time will tell.

That's a LOT of job loss. TRU prices are a bit high but if you want it you take it. This just get\'s me thinking about America and WORK, JOBS, BUSINESS GONE.
I hope the buildings sell fast. Get inspected and new business moves in,

You can't compete with Ecom with just the overhead of warehouses and Retail with stores and warehouses. It is simple math. The Ecom cost of shipping is cheaper than keeping the Retail brick and mortar there and staffed.
Of course big E-com will eat the lunch of specialty Retail. Even more so for the retail company that does it to itself where it is essentially taking its own business away from their struggling stores with their own Ecom site.

The only thing big retail today is good for is Big box items and perishable grocery imho.

The fact is fuel and postage is cheap in the US. Ecom wins out. Time is money follow suite.

However TRU could of tried a little harder but this was long overdue even if they did. I'm sure their international stores will be fine and downsizing will help them stabalize in the US to the size they belong at in this day and age.

Damn that California list is huge! 27 store closures!? I guess I should count my blessings that my local one is going to remain open. Even if in current years it's been slim pickings, I've gotten a lot of my favorite figures from there (I've lived in this town for most of my life).

Beast Wars, Unicron Trilogy, CHUG, Bayformers, Animated, Prime, Masterpiece, so many of these great figures all from the same local store. Of course also supplemented by my local Target, and now by Amazon, but I'd still rather have a convenient Toys R' Us then not. I've bought other things there too not just Transformers. Looking at you, video games, McFarlane, and Pop Vinyl.
