He still had people working under him that were locked up, and Scoop was previously seen to have not only been loyal to Starscream, but JOINED GALVATRON'S new Decepticons in order to commit more theft in Starscream's name. Regardless of his "Chosen One" destiny, Scoop still was part of Starscreams plans and committed acts in his name, including taking part in the very public and very problematic Combiner War.

Thats what I’m thinking, sometimes jet black comes off as midnight blue and I think thats what they are trying to emulate here, or at least in this art style.
I'm not so sure that joining Galvatron's Decepticons was much of a crime when he was acting as an undercover agent for Cybertron's leader at the time. That said, maybe he was let out to do community service as Trion's caretaker or something else along those lines? I imagine we'll get an explanation soon.

Nope. Off the top of my head, Praesidia--the previous leader of the Torchbearers with the MoF and Magrada in that flashback--was also killed by Onyx and his forces in the TF Annual.

There's more to it than that. He would have appeared to have actively joined a terror group of Decepticons PUBLICALLY- he was seen to be an antagonist by the populace. Even if Starscream cleared him after that, he was acting on Starscream's orders to steal the Enigma which Starscream had to cover up lest the Combiner Wars all fall back on his fault for having happened. That was why Scoop was locked up to begin with- he was a scapegoat, if I recall correctly. In order to pardon Scoop, Starscream would have had to admit more complacency in the other events that were going on. I doubt that he would have. Even still, what would Windblade know about it and why would she pardon Scoop but not Rattrap, who did more help than harm throughout?
No, Starscream had Scoop imprisoned as punishment for failing to keep Devastator under control. And did the general populace even know Scoop had ever joined the Decepticons? Galvatron didn't really make himself known on Cybertron until he sent Needlenose and Brawl there to get recruits, and Scoop had already betrayed the group by then. Also, MTMTE #50 had already shown Scoop out of jail (albeit with the wrong colours), so apparently--yeah, Starscream did pardon him (and even then, I'm pretty sure Rattrap did a lot more of Starscream's dirty work than Scoop did).
Pure black characters don't look that good in print which is why such characters come with another dark shade of color.

I'd imagine onyx prime is a herald of Unicron's. And he's going to announce Unicron's arrival when onyx arrives on Cybertron. Could be wrong. We've had various heralds of Unicron in past continuities I think we can add onyx prime to the list.
Bludgeon mentioned that he had a master but we don’t know if he meant Onyx or Unicron. And who knows how this arc is going to factor into The Darkest Hour.
Perhaps. You can’t have Unicorn without heralds. Onyx could very well fit the bill. But I can’t help but wonder if Megatronus will factor into this. He’s been mentioned before. Maybe they’re saving him for another time?
