Transformers vs. Visionaries #1 Sells Out at Distributor
Second Printing of the Critically Hailed Debut Coming Soon

The Transformers robots may have met their match in the recently launched series TRANSFORMERS VS. VISIONARIES. After teasing their arrival throughout the latter half of 2017, the Visionaries have officially entered the shared Hasbro comic book universe and are taking on the Transformers Robots in Disguise. The debut shocked fans with a dramatic cliffhanger and garnered widespread acclaim, resulting in a sold-out issue at the distributor level and a second printing ordered.

Scripted by Eisner-nominated writer Magdalene Visaggio (Kim & Kim) with art by fan-favorite Fico Ossio (Revolution), colors by David Garcia Cruz, and letters by Gilberto Lazcano, this hotly anticipated debut is a can’t-miss, pivotal issue, instantly earning its place in any Transformers and Visionaries fan’s essential collection. It’s the perfect jumping on point for new readers to join in the fun and adventure while also providing longtime fans with some exciting developments in the ongoing saga.

After their home planet of Cybertron is invaded, the Transformers bots encounter unwelcome guests… Refugees from another world, the Visionaries’ startling magical abilities could make them powerful allies… or dangerous enemies. It all starts here with the death of a beloved character!

“It’s been amazing seeing the outpouring of love for the story Mags, Fico, and the team have created, as well as the outpouring of love for the dearly departed Kup,” said IDW Associate Editor, David Mariotte. “And things are only just getting started. There’ll be more action, excitement, and drama to come.”

A second printing of the debut issue of Transformers vs. Visionaries #1 (cover art featured here) will arrive on January 31, 2018, the same day issue #2 goes on sale.

That’s only the first issue’s curiousity factor:most first issues do well. There is usually a sharp drop off with future issues. Now if Tf vs Visionaries #4 and 5 went to second print, then the series might have legs beyond a mini-series.

I'm fine with people having a negative opinion and all, but I'll never bemoan the franchise doing well.

Well they are starting to wrap up the IDW universe towards a definitive conclusion. We don't know how long it will be until IDW stops producing Transformers comics but we likely will this time next year. And not every character is going to survive until the end either. Its like how Furman started killing off a whole load of random characters towards the end of Marvel G1 and again during Marvel G2.

I'm not surprised. This story seems to be built on some interesting metaphors.

When you really think about the story though, how these are refugees from their home where they've long since fought their own war there. How this also mirrors the autobot decepticon war and how that slowly came to an end. How the rammifications were different that led to different outcomes, these new spectral knights armors make sense. War torn, battered, and pieced together from the past.

So if they do a series that focuses on the past of the visionaries and where their world was before they ended up as refugees, I'd expect those armors to be more fully clad and fresh/pristine to battered over the course of that series. But with this series, starting off with them as refugees, it makes sense that the knight armors would be pieced together. It's representative of what they as a people have been through.

I look forward to seeing how their story is told, and what 'prequels' may follow, as well as where the future may go after. Definitely would love to see a Leoric and Lio Convoy team up too!
Kind of curious what Takara could do with Battle Beasts mixed with Visionaries, mixed with Transformers/beast wars and what it would be like.

Every other fandom: Hooray, another part of the franchise is doing well!

This fandom: Ugh, how dare this be successful!

I swear, some fans just want Transformers to be a little cult following that never succeeds in anything new or different

No, I don’t like my franchise’s success being used to keep other 80s garbage on life support rather than just telling awesome Transformers stories.

Wait, when did IDW say they were going to stop publishing TF comics? If anything, I thought Hasbro would want them to keep going.

They didn't outright say it, but well perhaps it was pretentious to say the whole IDW continuity will come to a close but The Lost Light does seem to be heading towards a conclusion based on its current storyline.

Finished reading the fist issue. Have to explain I never got into the original Visionaries, since the cartoon was aired here only by a small and not popular TV channel and the toys never got into stores, so I only remember them for the title and not any other mayor references. So far, I liked very much this issue and the way the Visionaries are presented.

Just because lost light and optimus prime may be coming to an end does not mean the whole continuity is finishing.

And likewise with Unicron. Plus we don't know just what his role will be in IDW. To me it looks like we are moving into a beast wars era....

Well great. From now on whenever IDW wants to try and get another never was property over they'll just have them kill off major Transformers in the first issue to make it seem like they other property is important.

Jesus, is this what every Marvel and DC fan is like too? Do people get mad when Marvel and DC decide to make a new bunch of characters or reinvent old ones from decades ago and have them piggyback with larger titles like Spiderman and Batman? That's just common sense in business world, man. That's basically what happened with Archie's Megaman comics when they piggybacked off their Sonic comic and they ended up doing pretty well for the first twenty issues or so before they got canceled at issue 55.

So we all acknowledge that IDW\'s Unicron event is most likely going to be a grand finale.

How that finale ends depends on the sales of the next few events and issues of the current comics.

If they sell well, Unicron is defeated and the current universe will go on. If sales do poorly, well, Unicron won\'t be hungry for long and we will probably get a reboot or something.
