I gotta go with MPM-3 Bumblebee by a hair over MP-36 Megatron. Megatron is awesome but I'm not crazy about his gun mode. I'm smitten with both of Bee's modes and fun transformation.

So many awesome TFs to choose from in 2017. So difficult to pick just one best one. Lol.

God Ginrai is my toy of the year 2017, what a sight to behold, I don't care about anything else, and I won't even need a MP God Ginrai anymore

MP-32 came out in 2016. If it was MP-38, it would have actually made sense.

Interesting listings. Always fun to try divining someone's preference trends from a few choices.

I'll put up my top pick, which is actually two picks, but it's OK, 'cause they're both dinosaurs.
(note: these are completely and totally my own bias over any kind of empirical objective reasons)
    * TR Trypticon - There are flaws that everyone knows, mostly related to whether over-stressed joints will shred themselves or not, but it's a big pile of dark, lumbering awesome, great to look at, great to grab attention, great to interact with smaller toys. Even the stickers are pretty good.
    - AND...
    * POTP Slag (Slug to the heathen) - Maybe it's a bit small and compromised by combiner-ness, but regardless, it's pretty much everything my inner nostalgia monster ever wanted from such a toy, even if I never combine it with anything.

I'll give a small honorable mention of sorts to Mp-36 Megatron. To be honest, I got a knock-off instead, as I couldn't internally justify spending around $200 or more when I knew it was less about genuine desire than about filling a Megatron-sized hole on a shelf. I'll give all the credit though, as it's everything MP-5 Megatron didn't manage, with a great cartoon look and transformation engineering that is equal parts "Wow, that's amazing!" and "Holy crap, what a Goddamned nightmare!". It is what it is, and exactly how good that is is up to personal priorities. It's either the worst best, or best worst toy I've ever owned.

Great lists everyone! Really happy to see TLK voyager Megatron and TR Topspin getting so much love, as those are my own choices for best of the year (I can't afford MP-36, so it wasn't in the running).

I'm yet to buy them but they still are my favourites just from the reviews and pictures etc.

I would say MP36 Megatron comes first just due to the impossible becoming possible. Megatron was made better than I would have ever imagined and painted in the way I'd imagine in a dream.
The transparent plastic pieces used for his abdomen lights just blew me away, I got that vintage transformer feel that I felt as a kid when I saw Slags brown transparent leg pieces etc & dinohead.
Very few figures are likely to blow me away in the same way from this point onwards.
Rodimus Prime & the Stunticons are likely the only potential (to be made) guys who could knock MP36 off the throne.

I kinda feel like @Superquad7 in some aspects also for this year's winner. Artfire is one of my favourite figures I've seen released from TT. The colours and tampos are beautiful, the tampos being faux versions of his OG toys leg molds is so
ridiculous that its amazing. Kinda has Diaclone/G1 faux circuits and robot stuff via sticker vibe.
I also remember rediscovering Transformers via that website Wheeljackslab & TFW around the year 2004/5.
I remember also finding out about all these obscure Transformers that I never knew existed and also got intrigued by the AFA collectors forum. OG super collectors like @Killa-B-Killed @Malach Ra @jonnyshaft @Chefdova & a few others unknowingly sucked me further into the G1 when I was a lurker (pause) *check the early pages of the AFA threads
Anyway, I remember seeing Stepper & Artfire who were 2 of the biggest G1 Holy grails along with AFA 90 Megatrons & USA Piranacon giftsets. Never ever would I have imagined it possible to own an Artfire.
I used to look at him on eBay auctions and wonder if the Japanese writing sticker was that off colour from being in Japanese toy store windows for years, beautiful to see it on the MP.

Sunstreaker gets an easy 3rd place, an astonishing figure.

LG Octane gets a mention too, I got Octane for my 6th bday as a kid. The new figures homage to the cartoon with the Ghost Starscream gimmick was unexpected and blew me away.

Apologies for the long rant.. I got all passionate.

For me, I was absolutely floored by how awesome Artfire was in hand. As of this post, my Sunstreaker just shipped. From everything I've seen so far, it looks like if I'd had it in a week earlier, my write-up would have been much different. Artfire still just foes something for me few other figures do often, though.

Also, space didn't allow me to comment on how cool Titans Return as a line is. This said from someone who doesn't collect the line. if just made a personal decision to only collect Masterpiece figures dating all the way back to MP-12 Lambor's release. From a spectator's view, I find myself wishing I had the resources for both Combiner Wars and Titans Return. Topspin blew me away with how nice of a toy it is.

Gentle reminder that Triggerhappy came out and reached decent saturation in 2016.

Metalhawk almost made my list, it is a pretty great figure, and now there's a new tiny Metalhawk that can turn into a gun for deluxe Metalhawk!

well, I never got him, so he can't be my top... maybe I'll get him this year...

I feel we'll see Sunstreaker on some 2018 lists, as he came out so late in the year that many fans didn't get him until 2018, so he'll still count for this year. Those late figures always do.

I keep track of my favorites all year, I had 15 on my list that I had to narrow down. It's hard to do sometimes.

MP-38 was selected, and he came out this year. And one persion had 32 as a runner up, maybe they didn't get their POL until very late 2016/early 2017.

MAN!!! that takes me back... Is he still selling parts these days? I bought a lot from him when I was just starting...

Takara Triggerhappy came out this year though...

Also, this is one of my favorite things about this site as well. This is my 6th year doing a list, and I love it. Really cool to see why people pick what they pick. Now we start the list again for 2018.

True, but most people do say "TR Triggerhappy" or include him on a TR list. And the TR/LG releases are different enough to warrant specifying which they're talking about, after all.

All three staff members specifically said LG Triggerhappy in front of their choices... not really sure what you're getting at.

... I was trying not to name names, but I'm referring to the guy directly above my post who referred to Triggerhappy on a Titans Return list. Among others in this topic.

ah, okay. maybe he didn't get it until 2017, or forgot. Either way, not a huge deal. I got mine in November of 2016, and he was my top pick last year, but others don't always get things right away.

Okay..fine. I've made up my top 5 picks for the best Transformers released in 2017.
The best of the lot certianly was the just freshly released MP39 Sunstreaker. I mean whats not been said that hasn't on thiis great new carbot?
The following releases were close..but these are not in any particular order:
Takara Legends Sixshot. Weird pinkish purple and all. The new headsculpt and paint job were spot on. Loved the anime accuracy.
Legends Misfire is next. Loved that maroon/ teal combo. Imo perfect..not to mention the added bonus of a new Targetmaster.
Potp Voyager Grimlock. I know..Dino mode was iffy and out of proportion..but addeed playability as a combining torso and decent bot mode was pretty great.
Finally to round up the list, it has got to be the much improved Legends God Ginrai Giftset.
    Roll on 2018!

Just gonna go ahead and say if a PotP Piranacon comes out, it's automatically my figure of the year. I will fight you for disagree.
