What don't you like about IDW's restoration? I really enjoyed it personally, especially the nice solid colors when compared to the vintage prints.

As long as they keep the original feel of the comics in the translation, maybe change some of the American references to better understood Japanese references, we should be fine, yes? Or are we going to have a weird re-dub with mood-shifting jokes and characters with verbal tics like the Japanese dub of OG Beast Wars?

The colors are good, but the lines all look like they've been horribly thickened. And, the fact that the line restoration is automated has removed some detail and even screwed up text.

It's just an old stylized cover from wayback in the 80's. It doesn't mean anything & it's by legendary artist Bill Sienkenwicz, who did quite a lot of groundbreaking stuff mostly for Marvel.

Actually there is a fairly big market for TPB's of American comics in Japanese. Most bookshops have a section with the usual Marvel/DC stuff as well as The Walking Dead and some IDW books.

Maybe I'm just far removed from it, but I actually really liked the Marvel series (in the beginning) and thought it was not only well written, but provided some excellent character development, back in those "old, early days." First couple years, and especially Shockwave.

I actually didn't realize/forgot about his work on Transformers. I still mentally link him with DC's The Shadow series in the late 80s.

Oh, I definitely agree! The writing, while dated and hokey (and let's be real, very in line with the writing of the Sunbow cartoon), still shined the light on some otherwise less developed characters. I'm just saying that most of the artists Marvel used to draw the book, especially the early issues, had no idea how to draw robots and you could tell.

I've seen a few other Image books actually. Invincible, Saga and Wicked/Divine for example.
