They did it in AOE with Lockdown somehow going from a Lamborghini to being a similar height as Optimus, a giant trailer truck. Arguably it was there since the first movie, with the Allspark.
Magic items I think I can understand, but Lockdown legit had four-foot long taillights on the backs of his legs.
Wow seriously? I didn't even notice that. I do recall people saying he changes height from one scene to another, which is weird. Despite that, I'd say he was one of the better redesigns.
Lockdown doesn't mass shift... He makes an efficient use of space, that's all! Just like Peru Kill does!
Oh yes. Allspark too. But at least the allspark mass shifting doesn't look as weird as the staff. The allspark shrinking through a clear process. But the staff just...shift (the clearest one is when megatron retrieve the staff from newly sober Optimus). Just like megatron when turning into a gun and back.

Yeah, that's what I meant. The bots only "mass shift" when the bot needs to be a certain scale. How is Lockdown as tall or taller than Optimus Prime? "I dunno, mass shifting". A Lambo vs an 18-Wheeler cab...yeah. All I am saying is Bumblebee might put on a few pounds between this movie and the first one.
Found my new desktop background. On a different (and a somewhat nitpicky) note, I just noticed Bumblebee has Nexen tires. In the 1980's, Nexen was still named Woosung Tire and only changed the company's name in the early 2000's, so...mistake No. #01?
Dead? Plot twist: Barricade kills Charlie, kicking off their rivalry, and Bumble transitions from his violent WWII self to his slightly friendlier self because Charlie taught him about kindness or something? Like, Iron Giant, only Hogarth dies instead?
