I think you need to catch up. He is still a repaint of Quickslinger in the comics.

He has quickslingers head but not his body, unless he’s been in revolutionaries (last time I saw him was till all are one where he had a cybertronian body)

    Blast Off - Transformers Toys - TFW2005

And because he was the wrong colours! Didn't match the toy or the cartoon.

And because he looked silly with the shuttle cockpit for a chest! Much better with the flat chsted version used for UW Shuttler and UW Strafe

WOW! Elita looks really good. A lot better than Starscream. I was expected pink shit. But now I can't wait for her.

That's making an assumption that the Hasbro Blast Off won't have the same QC issues.

The other unanswered BO question. The old HFG or the new PotP hands?

The people who got the Botcon version would feel "cheated" but at the same time the cost of the figure (at least for those who went to Botcon) includes the Customization Class experience. The figure really was just a product of that.

Bingo. I ended up selling my US Combaticons (save jet Blast-Off) and dropping $100 on the UW version just for Blast-Off.

Do I regret that in light of this news? No. Either this Blast-Off is a standalone exclusive (which I can easily skip because the Megatronus Primemaster will also see a retail release) or part of a Boxed set...at which point I can buy the set and sell anything that isn't new to me.

I wouldn't start selling UW versions unless you've got the rest of the CW Combaticons to fall back on because I don't think they'd re-release the entire team. If this is part of a boxed set it's far more likely it'll be some kind of random assortment that *also* makes a combiner.

Who said he didn't? All we know is that Hasbro did a jet instead, and Takara wanted something more G1 so they foot the bill for an entirely new mold, and now Hasbro has access to the mold...

Blast Off's an unexpected yet happy surprise. :)  Now I have a chance of getting the mold without having to get the UW version.

Yeah; I don't recall ANY drop test discussion. I think it's just that Takara wanted to make more accurate UW boxes.

Don't forget that they also went and added in a bunch of engineering on top of what CW Devastator already had because they wanted to internally.

Did Takara "foot the bill" or did Hasbro just need something that could get to market faster than they could produce the shuttle mold and now that there's an opportunity they're coming back around and releasing what's available.

yeah, Starscream must have been kind of a pre-tool situation where the mold was meant for Elita,
but they released the ill-fitting but more well known character first ala Optimus Prime from Octane in TR, or Optimus Prime again before Motormaster in CW

Elita's one of the few PotP molds (outside the Deluxe Dinobots and the Terrorcons) to have my attention.

That Elita 1 also costs more than $30 so your point is?

    Blast Off in Hasbro colors?

My UW Combaticons are going to retire. The only reason I needed this set was shuttle Blast Off.

Well, I hope it'll be color matched with Hasbro Combaticons.

It's probably going to be the next May Mayhem figure since Hasbro slept on it last May.

I personally don't care about it though since Hasbro version is fine IMO...

Well why would they say that?

Even if it failed the drop test (which he really wouldn't as Blast Off isn't anymore fragile than the rest of the Combiner Wars toys), Hasbro doesn't make it a point to officially inform us of every Transformer they are not going to release.

The only time you hear about the almost mythical legend of the drop test it's on boards like this one making wild internet speculation to try and explain why Hasbro isn't releasing Takara originals like a Deluxe Groove, only to be proven wrong when Hasbro does in fact release such toys virtually unchanged from their Japanese release.
