As the title says, I'll scream from the hilltops that RID2 did humans best.

I say that because RID finally made its humans realistic, understood that they're meant to be a pleasant aside and grounding point to the "disguise" factor, delivered in short sweet bursts with enough variation to keep the environment alive.

I think RID is the first time since G1 that the humans were made to have this sort of authenticity that the Unicron shows and Animated decided to forgo and Prime couldn't do with it's dead streets. It almost felt like Crown City was meant to make up for Jasper, NV.

It's an anywhere USA town with a huge cache of random models

(I actually asked Adam Beechen if every instance of the same model was meant to be the same character, ie Bikini Bottom, especially since you do have Hank, Arnie, Casey, making multiple appearances alongside these generics, but he said that was never the intention but certainly not a bad way to look at it.)

I loved also how all of the human incidentals were shown doing a larger variety of just normal everyday stuff. Driving, going to museums, concerts, in spas, meditating. I enjoyed the variety in the speaking one-timers like Larry LaRue, Arnie (thought it was neat that he and Casey both got a second go round), the concert guy, the demolition derby guy, the meditators sitting through Grimlock (they either don't notice or somehow know they can count on our hero, either way you should go to that spa), the tour guide who hated her job, the conspiracy theorist, I could go on.

Not to mention our main two, Denny and Russel. Denny is top shelf fight me. I love that he's just a collector who gets to do what he loves. Russel is dull sometimes but never horrible. I think for me he's a little Joe Everyman and his voice reminds me of the kid from that horrible Grandma Got Run-over By A Reindeer special but he's definitely not bad. He's best when he's playing off another character and I suppose that's all characters but unlike every other character in RID I just don't have any favorite Russel moments that aren't actually my favorite Hank moments or Denny moments and I might not have a whole lot of favorite Bot moments will Russel.

I wanted more Hank. I just felt like she could be what really makes me enjoy Russel. But that's only cause she's a damn fine human character yes sir.

Would I or you really say that about Carly, Sierra, or any other minimal time female ditagonist?

But I'm just picky. Stan Marsh lite and divorced Randy actually have a great arc rebuilding, or possibly building at all, their relationship and maintained a welcome but tasteful presence for the rest of the show and I never missed them too much, and I never hated when they had their spotlight.

I really don't think even G1 did it this good.

    Thoughts?

They're decent. I liked the monk best. The kid was okay and Denny had his amusing moments. I prefer G1 and the Prime kids mostly.

I didn't like the humans in the series--either the sidekicks or the 'townies'. I found Denny and Russell annoying, especially their "Russell is wearing a beard, now NO ONE can tell that he's 10!" (Or however old he is.)

The townies were just idiots. Pure idiots. Looking at them, you could see why the Decepticons felt superior to organic life. I blame the dark energon seeping into Earth's water supplies.

TFP was a ghost town, probably because that level of CGI animation made making lots of human character models prohibitively expensive. But if we're talking in terms of "populated cities" OR "realistic reactions from human characters", TFA and G1 both did it better.

Denny, Hank, and Brother Gunter are awesome as hell

The generic human populace's not so swell

    Russell? Doesn't ring a bell.

Don't forget Rescue Bots! Which definitively has the best humans in all of Transformers.

Yeah, I'm sorry but I can see very little appeal in the humans of RID15. And I cannot understand why we didn't have a regular female character. I think this is the first show since G1 to do that. Not a great sign.

Well, Carly did have a fair bit more screen time then Hank but yes, I thought she was a pretty good character, even considering she was in the campy ridiculous mess that is G1.

Honestly the way humans were integrated in this show reminded me most of Cybertron. Except I think that executed it a whole lot better. Those were some fun characters. RID15's, I just found them pretty dull.

Oh shoot, you're right I forgot Rescue Bots. Rescue Bots really does have the best human characters. Normally I don't like any of the human sidekicks but I love the entire Burns family and a bunch of the townsfolk.

I thought G1 Carly was a great character. IIRC she went off on her own to . . . rescue Ironhide, or she was teaming up with Ironhide or something? I remember her swimming down in scuba gear to infiltrate the Decepticon base, at any rate. Awesome!

I disagree about the Burns family. I couldn't stand them one bit, and they were one of the major factors for me disliking the series.
I strongly agree with the opinion that the RID2015 humans are the best.

Denny and Russel were OKAY. They weren't as annoying as say the Unicron Trilogy kids (excluding Alexis), Jan Minakaze from Victory, Spike from the first two seasons of G1, Daniel, & even Sam but while they can be helpful, they're not the most memorable or developed humans of the franchise.

I still prefer other humans like Sparkplug, Alexis, Verity Carlo, Isaac Sumdac, and even the half-human and half-cybertronian herself, Sari Sumdac. They're just more likable, memorable, and even better developed in my opinion.

The only real thing I disliked about Denny and Russel was how supremely stupid they could be, including Denny's complete inability to control his child to the point where Russel gets caught in a lot of extremely dangerous situations.

As a whole, I really got tired of Denny and Russel managing to masquerade as various positions of authority by getting into a costume and slapping on a fake mustache. I get the show is supposed to be for kids, but I'm pretty sure a twelve year old dressed in a state trooper outfit with an obviously fake mustache isn't going to be able to direct traffic.

That being said, I'll agree they weren't the worst characters ever. I definitely put them over Miko, who bum rushed every situation with the common sense given to a pomeranian with brain damage, Super Genius Raf, and Professor Princess.

I think the most realistic pure human characters in a TF animation series had to be Jack Darby, Agent Fowler and Captain Fanzone for various reasons. Most of the reasons have to do with the fact that they approached the absurdity of the "giant alien robot" situation with conflicted feelings.

As an aside, I live in Nevada, and there are definitely some towns out there that look at lot like Jasper - barely populated places with almost nobody walking around.

Guess I'd have to vote ... a tie?

The Burns family was a fairly decent example of decent humans caring and taking care of their fellow citizens and critters... the other townspeople in RB were annoying as hell much of the time, and the guest humans were usually villains, i.e. Dr. Morocco etc... some of them were just annoying, i.e. Mrs. Neederlander or the Mayor...The repeat offenders were silly to point of stupidity imho... how many times do you arrest the same guys in a oh..let's say 5 year stint? Sure, if may happen IRL, but thankfully we're not always subjected to it. :lol
But as a family of characters, they were well done and other than Kade getting such a big head about himself, fairly humble and blue collar folks... some just happen to be brilliant scientists too. haha

Denny and Russell were okay at first, but especially in the last season, seemed to be superfluous to me. The locals and/or visitors were made out as yokels.. so nothing much there. The once in a while human character such as the monk from Pretzel Logic, Brother Gunther... was beautifully written and acted. A memorable character indeed.

I love Denny and Russel to the point that I want there to be alternate universe versions of them in Cyberverse, just like Windblade, Bumblebee etc.
