Just because you can cite an exception to the rule, does not make it a rule. The vast majority of toys released by both Hasbro and Takara use the same molds. Yes, there is an opportunity to retool or produce a different mold for example if an employee breaks a mold (as is widely beleieved for mpm4) or takara wanta to do something totally unique (as with devastator). However, the fact remains that most figures share the same mold and the difference come down to paint, extras (ex. Arms microns), and packaging
Man, Barry sure looks great. Wonder when we'll see some additional (higher quality) product shots. Guessing he might show up in the new Generations book. Hope someone uploads some scans soon.
Look, we can have this debate for eternity; it'll never change the fact that 99% of Takara's releases are all-around a better "QC product" than Hasbro's. It is what it is. If you disagree, than you haven't held both in your hand at the same time. (and yes, there are exceptions)

Actually the original Ironhide doesn't remove his guns at all. Your thinking of the ROTF HFTD Voyager I'm pretty sure. I have the original I'll have to get it out to do a review on it soon. I.just got out Leader Ironhide to do him
of you cant take them off of the original then the gimmick of a bigger gun that fires missiles would be pointless
Still not an excuse to accept a figure with messed up QC, Hasbro totally cuts budget, but doesn't mean they'll have less or worse quality, see the MPM Bee from Hasbro, doesn't have the problems as the MPM Prime. However, THERE IS NO actual proof to say Hasbro cut features or they limited the engeenering in Takara Tomy, some Japanese Primes still have the tabbing issues, yes, now more paint apps, but a brighter plastic, and now there were a tons of reports of missing thumb on these figures, neither of them it's perfect, but the japanese version, isn't much different than the hasbro/overseas one.
100% true man. I keep reading how the Takara version of Prime is so vastly superior to the Hasbro one, yet many still have the same tabbing issues as Hasbro's. Plus, out of the ones that do tab better (not denying there does seem a better number in favor of TT), there are a ton that have hands missing thumbs or completely manngled. It was an absolute crapshoot with Prime. Hell, neither of them even fixed the obvious roof panels. In all, its been a roll of the dice on whether someone would get a decent copy or not, regardless of the company.
Anyone else excited about the accurate interior? This MPM line may be reeling me in with real car goodness despite my lack of connection to the movie characters
While we may never get an official explanation of what happened, it's clear the ball was dropped by final production, whether by design error, factory workers, or both. Takara did retool some parts and improved tolerances so they were fortunately able to rectify some issues. The next Takara and Hasbro ones ought to be good, if they turn out the same as the 71 Hasbro run, something is very, very wrong. However this is the MP Barricade thread and deviating from Barricade. I suspect an intern did the colors for the MPM line because the colors for all 3 releases so far are not accurate. Barricade here has some paint apps that are too bright. Hope Takara goes way darker and dims out those bright paint apps.
I'm hoping Barricade's colors are a result of either some bad photoshop or over-saturated lighting. The mold looks amazing, and I'd be really surprised to see the final figure be released with the All Spark Blue and glowing face we've seen so far. Hopefully some in hand images start showing up before too long so we can all put those worries to rest. @Shin Densetsu is there any chance of getting this thread merged with the other MPM-05 thread? Hey @SilverOptimus can we get someone with connections to address the lack of frenzy? As a member of the target audience for this line (someone who grew up with the movieverse and now has the disposable income for masterpiece figures), I find this to be the MOST glaring issue with this figure by far, and have multiple friends who don’t even collect transformers anymore that agree with me.
It’s not just that though. Frenzy was the ONLY accessory that came with the original figure. I would have expected him to be included even if the mace had to be omitted, but no, instead we get a giant mace, what looks to be a dumb opening mouth feature, but the most important accessory gets omitted. It’s like if they did an MPM blackout with no scorponock even though every blackout that’s ever been released (including the upcoming movie edition leader) has included one.
Skorponok is actually pretty big, so I can see him getting his own MPM toy. Maybe be compatible with MPM Blackout.
Frag...you know what I bet they’ll do? Release barricade and blackout on their own and then do a two pack of scorponock and frenzy.
I wouldn't be opposed to that tbh, but I would hope it would be cheaper than $80 since he doesn't transform.
I don’t care what marketing choices they make with scorponok if they made an MPM Blackout. At that point I’d just be the happiest person because there’d be an MPM Blackout
