I used to love TF Prime but I've kinda come to dislike it actually. I was never sure why I stopped liking it but I've been thinking about it a lot recently. I think I've figured out my biggest problems.

It does a lot right, but it's so boring, character wise imo. Optimus rarely has any character arcs. I mean he has plenty of physical challenges to overcome, but how many times does he deal emotional problems throughout the show? He always seems to know the right choice and rarely shows struggle to make that choice, and he makes that right choice almost without fail. I cant think of one time in the show where he makes the wrong decision and has to deal with dire consequences. As a sentient being, no matter how wise and brave and strong he is, he should still be prone to occasionally making the wrong decision due to emotions.

And while all of the bots and cons and humans have plenty of personality and character, none of them have much good or deep character development. They're all kinda just the same person throughout the whole series and it gets kinds repetitive and boring.

Oh, and I despise the fact that they all always use the exact same transformation sound. No individuality at all. I wouldn't even mind if each character had there own sound that they used for every transformation, but every Cybertronian has the same exact sound.

I would love to see Peter Cullen on a role that he actually likes, he loves Prime, he respects him and all.

I hope cyberverse does being actually better than RID or Prime and i hope they use Peter.

I mean, he won't say "I'LL KILL YOU" every moment in a cartoon show aimed for the young audience.

I think it's intentional actually, for a Prime to be portrayed this way in this story. What it means to be a Prime. All business no pleasure. That's a disconnect with some, yet resonates with others. I think that's deliberate rather than an oversight.

Peter Cullen views his brother through his portrayal of Optimus, and through him virtue and morality are embodied and harmonized in his overall composure. Prime is a leader with a higher calling above and beyond average beings, highly intelligent capable calculating and compassionate above all else. Leaders of such stature don't have the luxury of being "human" because the responsibilities they carry. TFP showcased a very mature stage of Optimus' life, where he was the "fixed point" for the team at all times. It's his job to keep everyone focused and empowered. So when he mentioned that he really didn't care for the "kill you all grunt yell roar" I interpret it as not being "inline" with what his brother means to him, and the incorruptible standard he defines personally for the character. He can only inject so much of that though because the writers have other ideas for the story telling.

Movie Prime as a leader had his moments, and was very fallible, succumbing to emotion and despair more often than not, but overall lacked the stronger leadership qualities of TFP Optimus.

...I can't help but now think we're all arguing about significantly better material...than the stuff this was actually promoting.

Probably because the interview barely talks about the Titans Return show. It's mostly just a straight-up interview with Peter.

I don't know how TR is gonna treat Optimus, or Cyberverse for that matter.
Continuing the emotionless Optimus doll path is something I really don't want to see Hasbro doing. It takes the magic away from what made G1 Optimus so loved: his compassion and warmth.

Nope. He said if it didn't meet that criteria, he would have to turn it down. He hasn't turned down one of the movies yet.

The Bayfilms are most wqtchabl when you take them on two levels.

A popcorn flick, and an extreme self parody.

I like Murder Prime because the phenonmena of him existing at all is fascinating and on top of that they\'ve actually written some albeit brief but compelling stuff with him.

It\'s a shame Mr. Cullen doesn\'t really like that version of Prime, which he has mentioned before, but this interview doesn\'t allude to it all that much.

It\'s a testament to Peter\'s unwavering professionalism that even though he didn\'t necessarily vibe with the material that was given to him that he delivered some of the most rock solid vocal performances of his career and of all time in those movies.

    As did yours

You failed to see the point I was trying to make about prime. So let's drop it. Because its a pointless argument.

I've been an optimus prime fan since the very beginning. I liked how he was depicted in the bay movies and that's it. No one here has to justify why they do or don't like his depiction.

Continue your pointless argument but I or anyone else on here does not have to justify liking or indeed hating bay prime or murder prime or whatever label you put on him.

    I certainly don't.

Yes he did. He liked that he had to do a " bit of acting" in aoe as he put it in another interview. He did a great job in those movies showing his voice talent that a lot of us have taken for granted with him.

I'd love to meet the man. And frank Welker too. Gents

Aoe is definitely my favorite performance of his. I think its fairly easy to tell that he put more heart into a lot of his lines in that one than any of the others.

Even if you weren't missing the point, these edgy, cliche one-liners still wouldn't help your case.

I would think that it's fair to say that Mr. Cullen doesn't have a problem with Movie Prime. I think the character arcs don't pose an issue to him (I think he gets why Optimus would be broken down like others have said), but there have been several lines which have been cringe-worthy. Most of which sound like they came from Megatron, not Optimus.
