Whoever the nominating committee for the Hall of Fame is, they're very much traditionalists - "the stick" was a first ballot draft pick, for instance.

I would not be surprised at all to see "sand" make the cut over Transformers, which has been on the ballot for... 2-3 years now.

All Halls of Fame are weird, but this one is VERY weird - the GameBoy is in, but the NES isn't. This one seems particularly Boomer-centric; D&D and the Fisher Price Little People JUST got in last year, and jesus christ D&D is in the goddamned DNA of modern pop culture - any time anyone talks about "leveling up", that's D&D talk.

Judging by past inductees one slot will surely go to sand or paper airplanes. Current popularity doesn't really seem to be much of a factor for getting in, it's more about nostalgia. I'm surprised Matchbox is not in already, it might get a slot. Pez or Uno have a good chance too.

Fuck sand. Sand gets in places it ought not go. And sand can make a good tomato sandwich crunchy.

I have done so (again). Looks like an insurmountable gap, though.

On the plus side, Transformers is currently beating out sand 2-to-1! :)

    Also voted.

For ease, the vote is just on the main page: National Toy Hall of Fame |

It's way behind, but third place only has a bit over 4000 votes. If they consider three this year, that could be beatable if we push.

Not sure it's apathy, per se. I gather that this so-called "Hall of Fame" isn't well-publicized, and has had questionable inductions for years now.

It gets reported every year. Last year, Dungeons and Dragons fans got the lead out and won an induction. How no one remembers this is beyond me...

I'm not sure you've refuted my assertion as well as you seem to think you have....

"It gets reported every year" =/= "well-publicized"

It's had plenty of media coverage.

national toy hall of fame - Bing

It may not be as polarizing as The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...music has considerably more fans than childrens' play things...and therefore not AS much coverage. But, really, the HoF is a relative as the people interested in it make of it.

In other words, there's probably as many people who ignored or missed this coverage as there are folks who ignored or missed a recent story covering the fact we've observed the first ever-recorded interstellar cosmic body swing through our solar system this year. But you can't say they weren't well-publicized.

Anyway, more appalling is the lack of response from fans here. They think it doesn't matter. And that may be true FOR THEM. But it's also validation for the people who brought the franchise to us in the first place...including the folks at Marvel, old Sunbow personnel, Hasbro, Takara Diaclone designers, etc. This is our chance to show fan appreciation for everyone who participated in bringing these toys to us, all in a simple click.

Whatever. It's apathy then. The main thing I don't care about is this stupid argument.
