My wife said that she wanted to go Ghostbustign with me this Halloween. I thought that was cool, but I didn't feel like building a whole new movie-style Proton Pack. So I decided to go with a Real Ghostbusters Cartoon-Style pack! I also thought that this was a good opportunity to brush up my EVA foam building skills.
I bought a stack of foam floor mats from Five Below and got cutting. My glue is Woodweld contact cement. It works fantastically. I'm still using hot glue here and there, but it just can't compare to the hold you get with the contact cement. There're also a few bits of yoga mat in there.
Random bits include a Pringles can and an articulated hose and PVC pipe fittings from Home Depot.
To patch and surface the foam, I'm using a mixture of spackle and white glue. To seal the surface for painting, I'm using spray-on Plastidip. Paints are spray paint and studio acrylic. The platidip protects the foam from the spray paint and provides a really nice surface for painting.
I had to do a bit of organic shaping on the hand grips. For that I used a sanding drum on my Dremmel. It took a bit of practice, but I think I'm getting the basics down. It will be a while before I can do more than simple shapes.
The base of the neutrona wand is a length of PVC pipe. The barrel tip is half of a PVC fitting and a part from a book light. It's not perfectly show accurate, but it has a cool look to it, so I'm ok with it.
The latch system on the model sheets doesn't look practical to me, so I'm hanging the neutrona wand on the pack with a simple hook and loop. I can always go back and do something more showy later, and for now this works.
I've also attached the reference pics that I've put together. I assemble these in Paint and hang them over my my bench as I work.
This is all still a work in progress, so any crits and comments are welcome.
The deadline is Halloween, so you should see a finished product pretty soon.
    Thanks for looking!

Awesome work Mr. Servo. I really like the Cartoon take on the Proton Pack. I did myself a movie version a few years ago using cardboard but I really like the pink foam approach.

Find yourself a used portable vacuum cleaner for a nice hose attachment for the thrower.

    Thanks!
I might just do that for the hose on the body of the pack. The RGB pack has a straight yellow hose. I'm not sure where I'm going to come up with that. I'd like to avoid painting a hose, because it would eventually chip.
Also, it's not pink foam. It's much softer and lighter EVA foam- like Nerf material. It's a great way to build big props that are super lightweight and durable. Of course I'm mixing in styrene, metal and other bits where needed.

Maybe a yellow jump rope would work?

Oh crap...I didn't remember the yellow hose for the animated thrower. Check Amazon, this is the closet I could find.

Air hoses for compressors are commonly yellow. This might work if you can find one that doesnt coil. Got a Harbor Freight near where you live? Could probably snag a cheap one there.

^this all day. If you can find a Air Hose for Compressor and wind it in the opposite direction you should be able to straighten it out. Apply some heat, hell you're a basher, you can figure out how to shape things ;)  Harbor Freight should be available you way I'm sure.

Thanks guys, but those looks way too heavy and stiff for what I'm doing. I'm probably going to roll with soft clear tubing painted with plastic formulated spray paint. I'm confident that it can get me through. If I need to upgrade, I'll have plenty of time before I take it out again.

Can we show stuff like this on here? Btw, I'm all for it. I ask because aside from being a bot nut, I'm a Lego nut, and would LOVE to show off some of my custom builds on here. In no way am I bashing anything. Creative work is creative work. Thanks in advance. :)
