I thought it was at first too. My post was originally even going to point it out as an art mistake, then I looked closer at the glimpses of Groove in the last page and made the connection.
That's unfortunately what happens when a writer gets told they're the funniest, most brilliant guy ever. He starts to believe it. Same thing that happened to Lucas. Everyone told him he was brilliant and faultless, and then Jar Jar happened.
The difference with Lucas was that he had collaborators in the beginning; a crew to challenge him and reign in and/or smooth out his worst ideas. They were all gone by the time of the prequels. All Roberts had to do was keep up what he'd been doing, since he had no one really reigning him in, technically.
I like the preview it has a feel of red dwarf series 8's opening scene. Kind of wants me to see a Spotlight of the adventures the Protectobots and Mirage had on their way back to the Lost Light.
Love that LL's next issue is coming out soon. Hate the complaints about the dialog. Because most of the complaints are true.
...first aid? Buddy?...I don’t remember you being like this. This is genuinely frustrating as First Aid has long been my favorite member of the most light crew, being dorky but still fun. But..this? This isn’t First Aid. Like, he did quip back every now and again but he wasn’t like THIS. For example; the whole rip thing and “died as he lived” has traces of First Aid but it feels mostly like Rodimus. Did those bastard revolution writers get in here? Because everyone is flanderized as shit. I really hope this preview isn’t going to be How First Aid acts for now on. It doesn’t feel right. And I don’t want to even begin with the protectorbots. If I’m lucky, maybe mainframe and first aid will do something later this issue, and act like themselves there. And not as Rodimus clone number 55. Like, lost light has its good moments but a problem is definitely arising. While Team Rodimus is usually a team of jackasses, all of the usually nice characters have been ‘jack assified’ while anode and lug hog up the spotlight. I’m all for new characters but they..they just suck. They’re not good. At least they aren’t Pyra. Still; hopefully the writer actually realized who he was writing after that preview page and went back to the analytical dork that is first aid.
Technically, Barber was writing RID WHILE he was also editing all the other TF books. He just stepped down so that he could do more writing and take jobs outside of IDW.
Roberts please realise you\'re not very funny. Feel terrible saying this as I used to love mtmte but the painful attempts at trying to constantly be oh so quippy and funny have progressively (admittedly along with other issues) ruined this book i didnt ever make a conscious effort to drop the book but didn\'t get around to buying a couple of issues a while back then ended up reading them and thinking I\'m not giving my money for this and have ended up feeling the same about every issue since. The end of the last issue with the grand architect reveal was about the only enjoyable thing about the entire last storyline but wasn\'t enough to make up for the lug/anode horror show
The problem of the dialogue being uniform is indeed real (Hot Spot and First Aid could be the same person talking to themselves in that pre-crash panel) and the perma-flippant tone has grated for quite some time. It’s ironic that for such a diverse cast they have absolutely no diversity of tone.
The whole deal with lug and anode is actually terrible given the rest of the cast we usually have. Like, you know what would’ve been better? Focusing more on ROLLER. He’s still a developing, interesting character for starters and still has a lot of interesting lore being the best friend of Optimus. Instead we have these rather blatant Mary Sues. It’s baaaad. I’ve noticed it as well and it’s especially terrible given how good First Aid was as a character. And know he’s heaaaling Rodimus You could be right, but they need to explain this in lore
Couldn't possibly be that First Aid sounds like Rodimus because that's First Aid's most prominent idea of what a charismatic captain sounds like. Especially considering he's going back to Rodimus' ship and the first thing he does is ask about Rodimus. Nah, must be terrible writing, the worst ever. You cracked the case, boys. Oh hey, look, someone who's been paying attention. Honestly, the Roberts hatedom is way more irritating than any of his half-assed quip attempts could ever be.
"That's not a plan - that's an objective" is a legit good line, in the classic vein of "Wrong - they're our way in". Shame First Aid had to get in a lame comeback.
Actually, I never really looked at it like that before. That’s actually a genuinely good point. Maybe First Aid is channeling his inner Rodimus? My only problem with that idea is that he ‘sounds’ too similar to hot spot for that to be true. But who knows? Hopefully you’re right!
