It's finally out on a decent domestic release. What are you waiting for?! This was an awesome movie that I watched on import DVD last year. Was also a -huge- deal in the Korean film industry, from what I understand. The story is multi-genre, and overall it's got a great feel to it. Ignore the silly US trailers that try to market it as a comedy, it's got a lot more sides to it than just that. Anyone else seen this? Remember, buck the consumer trend and watch this widescreen feature in its original language with subtitles. Seriously, don't watch the dub, The Host already -has- english language parts. The film is multi-lingual off the bat.
I've seen it, a rather good movie. Comedy? perhaps at some points, but as a Horror movie, right up there with Alien. Also the only movie I've seen that treats Archery as a sport. Although, the portrayal of American's is a little less than stellar, but what can you do?
One reason why I like this movie is the way it mixes its horror elements with both action and bits of comedy. Typically dark, dark comedy. **SPOILERS** The scene right before he gets the brain surgery, for instance. When, after all that, he reveals that he speaks english and could understand the government guys the entire time. Or the revelation of -how- that American guy died (not a virus, just his own inability to cope with the stress of surgery). **END SPOILERS**
Yeah I saw it yesterday when I picked up Babylon 5's movie, and I wanted to get it. Now that I read what you guys have to say about it, I'm definitely pick it up.
I bought it as soon as I could. Great film. Dont watch the dubbed version. The early cgi shots are not great, but it gets better.
I rented it from the redbox last week when it was released, ended up keeping it for 3 days just so I could make all my friends watch it
I would love to...But naturally, it's only just out in cinemas here, though so far I know of no local cinema that's actually showing it. *Grumble*
I was skeptical. Real skeptical, but this is probably one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a while. It's good, it's un-American, it's funny, it's sad, it's predictable, yet not; it's refreshing. Glad I scraped together $ for it.
Very well made. Not a buy for me, but I respect what they did. I wanted to strangle that girl's dad though, he was so stupid...
I thought they made it clear that he couldn't help it, like mentally handicapped sorta? If you knew that then disregard me!
I just saw it this last weekend. While the story wasn't that great IMO, the monster CGI was incredible. I mean really, it looked better than a lot of the stuff ILM has put out. I was really impressed with that.
if you guys enjoyed Song Kang-Ho's acting in "The Host", then i think you americans might want to see an older movie of his. it's called "The Foul King". he plays a bored office worker who joins a wrestling federation. i just had to watch this dubbed in cantonese because they got Stephen Chow and his crew to dub it. loved the added improv lines too. i'm pretty sure that was Stephen Chow's doing too. brought some good laughs there too.
Totally love this movie. The trailer had me hooked at work and when I finally watched it, I was blown away. The action starts right away and keeps a good pace. I've recommended it to a lot of customers. Good monster flick.
