Assaulter is based on the IDW:Stormbringer version of Broadside. His alt-modes are of Cybertronian origin, not from Earth. This miniseries happens before the "gang" arrive on Earth en' masse. You may have noticed that Cybertron has no "wet navies" so a star ship makes much more sense.

I wasn't saying the alt-mode didn't make sense, or that it comes from nowhere, I'm saying that any kind of definitive Broadside for me has to have an aircraft carrier mode. It is, far and away, the character's most (bordering on only, in some continuities) only defining feature. And yes, I know about racecar Optimus Prime. That's the reason I used that example. Because it's out there, it does exist, but it's just not going to be the first thing I think of when I think of Optimus Prime

Seriously, no shade to those that like the figure, but it can't be my definitive Broadside. And that's fine. It happens. You don't have to... correct me on that.

I'm still debating between trying to pick up one of these or just settling for the TR figure.

In some respects this figure has aged well, in others not so much. For one thing it has a lot of diecast but standard ball jointed feet that aren't quite up to the task of keeping him well supported at all poses, sometimes he'll lean back or forward with mine rather than staying solidly in his stance. And his waist/torso transformation left him rather gappy from the side and looking pretty poor from behind. Given the separation between his nosecone assembly and the front of the torso it at times looks like his has a paper thin waist with his back kibble looking like its growing out of his lower back rather than cleanly folded up. The engineering wasn't handled so well in that area.

Unlike the arms and legs which I still love design wise as they look very nice. The head with the visor/mask up though not so much as the face ended up being very small as a result and his helmet looks like an awkward hair piece around it, so I always had to keep it down since it open looked so goofy to me.

But his materials in general are fantastic, lots of good durable plastic and incredible paint work, so he remains quite photogenic and sturdy feeling provided you hide his waist and don't look at him from the back lol.

And his gun swords were super cool though I do wish they had a few other ways to transform for display purposes.

Still wondering if I should pick up the TR figure myself, seems like one of hasbros better releases in the line and has more paint and fewer gaps/hollow looking parts than I usually expect from them.

Same here, both are not too good in my opinion...
The FPJ version plane looks great, and carrier mode looks weird.
TR version, the carrier looks better, but the airplane mode looks just so so.

And both of them are too small. Wish there will be a better 3rd party version soon, from company like FT or MT or MMC.

Been so damn long that I had to search for it. FansProject Assaulter - General Release
Starts at post #2014. Enjoy. Tekering knocked it out of the park. You can also see parts from deaculpa on post #2389. It was a DIY.

See now, that could be my definitive Broadside. Though storing it in plane mode might be tough...

It just seemed like you were exaggerating, because he's still a carrier. That's all.
Truck to sportscar is a big difference. Aircraft carrier to space aircraft carrier is not.
Which is why I brought up truck vs space truck, which would be a better comparison to what we have here.

I understand you're looking for something in particular, as are we all.

I recently bought this guy MIB and really liked him for the price (70$ US, although I had to pay shipping as that die cast makes him a pain to ship). I ended up just removing the ratchet joints in his waist because they were soooooo incredibly tight I thought I would break him. Super-solid figure, although needs to be a hair taller to properly size with the Wreckers.

Gorgeous pics as always. Really scratches the nostalgia itch. Thanks Kuma.

I stuck a wrecker symbol on the white cockpit part so he fits into all sub groups in my collection.

You were smart to do that, I bought him a few months ago and the first time I moved his legs, it sheared off the ratchets on both sides.

    Ahhhh good memories...
I really liked this bot... especially with the surprise berserker face.
Boy was he hefty with all the added diecast.
Too bad mine had a pin missing for a wing on purchase and then a rifle hinge broke... that was the last straw for me and I had to sell him off.
Otherwise I would have kept him...
