Okay I was happy with the thought of buying Klaatu, but wow I'm nearly sold on this guy. I'll be waiting for reviews and seeing if there are any QC issues, but this is a really good style for Cosmos.

 

Riight, based on the famous Studio Ox Mirage design. If you can show me what you're refering to I'd be willing to believe it. One Ox design still wouldnt justify calling the entire line that though.

I'm not sure what doing it in spirit means for this line, I mean they are Japanese style but so are a bunch of third party transformers. If it's more in spirit, and the designs will vary and not be based on OX anyway, then why call it that?

 

what are the repaint possibilities?

 

It looks good but it really needs other MPs next to it so there can be aesthetic comparisons.

Nice attempt, Ocular Max. But his proportions are too heroic for me. I prefer my Cosmos tubby.
Hence, Klaatu will do just fine for me. Ocular Max has been a hit and miss for me lately. Only good figures I got were Sphnix and Liger, the rest not so much.
But great for people who liked him.

 

Studio OX art, super robot anime, and Soul of Chokogin are griffith's inspiration for creating the line. It's also supposed to be the basis for his personal design contributions to the line, which have yet to be seen.

The brand approach, though, has been designer-friendly and giving each of them quite a bit of freedom (at least that's what it looks like from the outside). In a sense, this mirrors Studio OX art itself, since it's made up of multiple artists who don't all draw the same way. Some OX art is indistinguishable from Sunbow; some is Sunbow + more toy details; some are more exaggerated interpretations.

In the end, calling it "Ocular Max" might be somewhat of a misnomer, but OX art is what sparked the creation of the line. (MMC's also hardly been pushing the "Studio OX" angle in marketing for a while as well.)

 

Bot mode looks good to me.

 

Okay, so if I WAS gonna double dip, Klaatu would be the obvious choice... I mean, it IS show-accurate. Yet I have had no problems passing up on it thus far. This toy, on the other hand, doesn't really look like any other representation of Cosmos...

I have to admit, something about this just... works for me. He looks like a mech. IDK. Maybe I'll put it with the IDW MP bots?

If this thing has good QC I can see myself getting it... even though I really have no place to put it in my collection, LOL. Maybe CHUG?

 

Not interested in a third Cosmos however the design is good and honestly, repaint this as gobots Pathfinder and I'll probably grab it to go with my growing gobots collection. Have Hoss, cykill and crasher are on pre-order. Might even be tempted to grab turbo. Shame the robo machine releases were so tiny. I did like my leader one.

...repaint the entire figure in luminous shades of white, replace the tiny figure up front with a small beige control console, replace the tiny figure around back with a wee turtleneck-clad carl sagan...

I like him, just having a problem with the feet, from both a proportions and function perspective. The proportions speak for themselves, but it looks like the foot isn't attached normally to the leg. Seems to be a ball joint where the shin meets the foot that allow pivoting, but it isn't hidden which could look awkward in normal poses (especially ankle tilts). I'm interested but need to see more.

Anyone put together an updated side-by-side of the available 3P MP style Cosmos offerings?
