I have no idea about some things that would probably be common knowledge for most. If I wanted to get a PSP game through the PS Store, provided they sell them, can I play it on the PS3? Or is it only possible to play these games on their native hardware?

I rarely order shit off VC type things so I'm not 100% sure on how it works. And I feel as though I've asked this at some point in the distant future, but for the life of me I don't recall for sure if I did... Ah well.

Unfortantly, though they -really- should change it... idiots, you can only play PSP games on the PSP and -some- of them on the Vita or Playstation TV.

That sucks. Can I at least order and play PS One games on the PS3? I kind of want to pick up FF Anthology and possibly FF Chronicles to boot. If they're available that is.

Yes you can buy PS1 Final Fantasy games on the Playstation Store on PS3 though I think it's missing FFIV.

Look, I'll be honest.. and I hate to say this cause I'm all for paying what you get. but if you have a Vita/PS tv firmware 3.60, a PSP or a decent machine. Just emulate all of it.

Seriously.. People I know folks are mad about no VC on the Switch yet.. But at least Nintendo KNOWS people want to play the old games.

One of Sony's head hanchos is a complete idiot in that regard.
“Why would anybody play this?” says Sony’s Jim Ryan about backwards compatibility

That's all well and good, but I prefer having games to play that don't require me to fuck around with the hardware and risk damaging the machine. I'm not a hip home computer genius here, if it's VC available from any store for any system I own that I can get it on then that is what I will do. Emulation may be the perfect solution for some people who don't mind dealing with weeding out the virus hack jobs out there to download onto a system that can be remodded to play NES/Genesis/PS and X-Box games all on the same system, but I prefer sticking with stuff that won't lead to destroying my gameing systems to the point of needing to get a new one... I can't afford that kind of hassle, it took me until last year to finally get a PS3 for Christ's sake. And I still want a Wii U, but am so late to that party the ship sailed ages ago, so I'm stuck waiting and saving and hoping a used system comes onto the market I can afford easily enough.

Just be aware that the situation right now is that you'll be buying them only for PS3/PSP/Vita and that they could go away when they eventually turn off the online services for those systems. If your cool with that then buy what you want, if your not then you can take your money to another platform or take matters in your own hands.

Funny, I bought games for my Wii and those didn't go away when the online services were discontinued. I'm pretty sure Virtual Console titles stay with your system unless there's a catastrophic failure and your harddrive is wiped.

Wii purchases are registered to the individual console you brought them on, PS3 purchases are registered to your PSN account and your console has to be attached to that account to play them.

Plus the Wii Shop is still online and still being used on Wii U, it's the in-game services like multiplayer and leaderboards that were switched off a couple of years ago.
