The shock is that Akiva and Bay lasted longer than
Jazz Ironhide Ratchet Sideswipe Arcee Dino Que Jetfire Blackout Megatron Shockwave Starscream Megatron again Scorponok Sideways Devastator Stinger Nitro Zeus Onslaught Mohawk Infernocus and so many others who deserved so much better.

They leave us with a legacy of a bunch of Autobots who could be quite good Decepticon characters, led by a raging psychopath and his murderous kid-friendly lieutenant. I guess we're not in G1 any more...

Perhaps the movie was too long, that they had to cut out alot of scenes, considering people complained about how AOE was 3 hours long, and its likely they did shoot alot of scenes, because they were filming all the way to December, compared to the other films that ended filming on either October or November.

The other thing that could've contributed to the issues other had (i didnt had any issues with the film myself), is that its basically 3 movies in 1, as the idea of TF being involved in WWII was pitched as its own movie, the idea of Transformers being involved with King Arthur was pitched as its own movie and Transformers 5 was pitched as its own thing, having nothing to do with King Arthur or Bumblebee fighting in WWII, but very early on, Bay, the writters and the producers decided to merge the 3 concepts into one film. One has to wonder what the original pitch for Transformers 5 was like.

We haven't been in G1 since 1990. No use in complaining.

That actually reminds me a lot of Impactor, strangely. It would be really weird to see someone named Impactor as a Corvette, but then again, it's no different than seeing a guy named Crosshairs be a Corvette. Besides the head, the design kicks ass. The car parts make more sense than on the actual Crosshairs model, at least.

Give me designs that look like this, and I'll finally acknowledge these movies actually being about THE Transformers instead of Alien Insectoid Robots That Happen To Transform...

The whole point of Transformers is that they can look like anything. Why do they have to be based on your shitty 30 year old cartoon?

As long as they aren't taking part in another two-hour History Channel special, I'd be down for it. To me THAT'S more problematic than the designs.

Exactly! Taste in Transformers designs and aesthetics are based on personal preferences anyway. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but any robot that transforms into an alternate mode is a Transformer, regardless of aesthetic or design.

Why are we even arguing aesthetics though? This thread is about the head of the writer's room leaving, not designs. I am pretty sure the writers are not who come up with the final robot designs.

If you even have to ask, then there's clearly no point trying to explain it.

And also take a look at 90% of every TF incarnation or re-imagining including your precious little movies - ALL based or influenced by that "shitty 30 year old cartoon". Nothing wrong with people wanting their favorite characters to actually look like their favorite characters even WITH modernized changes made to their designs. A simple concept still shockingly lost on a lot of defensive Bayformer fans that evidently have a difficult time with common sense.

Those designs are perfect. My only thing is I hope they keep the moving, articulating eyes/optics that blink. More expressive that way and makes them alive.

First you tell me the movie bots are insectoid and not real Transformers. Now you tell me they're based on the cartoon. Which is it?

Eeeh, no... too G1 for me. Just looks like TF: Prime, which was good, but not what I'd want in a live action movie.

In my opinion, these designs are absolute perfection when it comes to mixing everything I love about Transformers new & old and I would be over the moon if these are used in the live action films, sequels or reboot. Surprised there are people actually disliking these designs.

Yeah, for me, they more or less hit all the checks I wanted & expected when the first movie was announced: instant character recognition vs. needing title cards to tell who you're even looking at, and updated designs that aren't stuck in the 80's yet retain key visual trademarks and/or likenesses.

I'm not saying any reboot has to have exactly this design aesthetic, but so far it's the best example of how to successfully hybrid several styles.
