Not really. The f 22 is hollow in nearly every single possible place to save weight, and the wings are nearly flat. The overall mass of an f 22 is probably just slightly bigger than that of Optimus's truck mode. So it makes sense that he'd not be much bigger in bot mode. This is where all the mass is on an f 22. Most of the rest is hollow.
An F-22 when empty weighs over 43,000 lbs; an empty Peterbilt 379 weighs no more than 20,000. A Raptor weighs more than twice as much. So no, the two machines are no where near the same size, and the 22 is not just "slightly bigger". Further more, a F-22 is 62' long, while a Peterbilt 379 is only about 29' long. Moreover, Starscream's cockpit CLEARLY get's smaller in his robot mode, which shows that he's drastically mass shifting (Starscream, not Lockdown, may be the biggest perpetrator of mass shifting in the films). Which makes me think that they should have simply used an f-16, which is much smaller in size than an F-22.
Optimus probably had some hentai arms that allowed him to stretch and attack grindor from a far and that is why he looks smaller.
Like I said, the majority of what makes him look big is his wings. The main fuselage is about the same width and its twice as long, but its also much flatter than Optimus's truck mode. And he does have a much bigger robot mode. He's about the same height, but almost twice as wide as Optimus. And I've said this a few times before, the canopy in his chest might not be the whole jet canopy. It might just be the top part.
Lockdown may not be mass shifting as much as we thought, as evidenced by the new toy that is 22cm tall but the vehicle is about 17 cm long
Obviously they made him different heights to suit certain scenes. If you need to justify it somehow, then say he uses a self contained mass-shift generator. This means he can be smaller and more agile when needed, or bigger, heavier with longer reach when fighting Prime. Which in my opinion is a very 'Lockdowny' thing to do.
I disagree. During the few scenes where he appears to be as big as prime, you can chalk it up to it being camera manipulation or a conscious effort on ILM's part to increase his size solely for a more dramatic fight. I highly doubt it's an in-universe ability.
You completely missed my point. I said they (as in, the film makers) made him bigger for the Prime fight. The mass shifting ability was a suggestion for people who have difficulty justifying that change.
I suppose if that explanation satisfies people then it can work. It doesn't for me, because I don't see it as real mass change, just perspective. But I understand where you are coming from.
Anyway, I guess my point is, Lockdown is about 22 feet, but his height appears different in some schemes during the last fight due to with a model manipulation or perspective. But it shouldn't mean he is ever really 24-28ft tall.
Indeed. Somehow, they screwed up the scaling in the live action movies like on the G1 cartoons when the small combiners and cassettes are as tall as Prime, Onslaught in some scenes. Even Unicron shrinks and grows in different scenes.
Interesting and decent research! Yeah, Lockdown has the small height, but he's powerfull and we have an impression that he looks bigger, because we often see him near TFs who are laying down. I appreciate how you analyze these scenes using proportions. I also noticed that it's effective to use the golden proportion to get sizes of their legs and arms. Every time when I use it I get good results. Since the golden proportion is considered as a sign of perfection it points out that TFs WERE BUILT by someone! I also admire how tricky Michael Bay was when he is trying to show Lockdown bigger the he actually was. It reminds me Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel - Lennox has almost 2m height, but Epps is somewhere near 1,75m, but you never note it in the Movie!
guys the movie doesn't care about sizes.just about bringing in that doe. I don't want to be a @rubadubspawn bit I am making a tf fabric series where it fixed the issues of you guys want to see that.
Two thoughts from me: Back in 2006, I specifically recall the heights to have been reported by ILM as Optimus 28' Ironhide 24' Ratchet 22' Bee 16' Jazz 13' Megatron 33' and the rest is hazy, with Blackout coming close to 40'. I say this, because the charts have since been changing Ratchet & Ironhide's heights. The second thought is about how we could possibly get a good screen height reference of Lockdown. Is there a ladder on one of the silos, in the scene by the baseball field, right after he transforms? Ladder rungs are spaced 12" apart, that's almost as good as holding a ruller right up to him.
Thank you, for refreshing my memory on Megs and Blackout, however I maintain, that they took away two feet from both, Ironhide & Ratchet.
Lockdown is my favourite Bay design which is ironic since I loath AOE’s no-kibble aesthetic. If Lockdown was indeed mass-shifting, disregarding physics and realism, why bother making him Ratchet-sized when he could be just as tall as Optimus?
