Has anyone else been reading the new ongoing Star Trek title? As of now it's set after the events of Star Trek Beyond, but before
    the Enterprise-A is finished.
It's only four issues in, but I've really been enjoying it.

This first story-arc was a little weird, and I'm sure it pissed off quite a few long-time Trekkies/Trekkers
because of them using the Borg
, but I liked it. It's plot makes a nice callback to some older Kelvin timeline comics. Only thing I'm not a big fan of is
them potentially having killed off Sulu's family. I specify potentially as, even though issue #4 was the finaly to this story arc, their fate is still up in the air.

The art is good, nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done. That said, I absolutely love the main cover art they've been using for the issues. Assuming they haven't already done so, I'd like to see them release posters of some of them. Especially the first issue's main cover.

The next issue is a one-shot telling of Jaylah's past, and then issue #6 sounds like it picks up with a new multi-issue story arc.

Now that everyone involved with these movies have stated that the Kelvin universe is a separate entity than the Prime universe, I have no problem with the Borg showing up. The sky is the limit.

Also an Enterprise episode had the Borg in it. And the TNG episode that introduced them had implied they'd been probing the edge of the Federation for years.

I felt the story was a little rushed at the end. Another issue could have answered Sulu's family fate and maybe added a bit more backstory to Valas (whom I liked and was saddened to see go).

If anyone had issues with the Borg's presence in the comics has not read any of the last 5 years of Star Trek novels.
Borg go on a rampage, kill about 100 billion people and ravage half the Alpha quadrant before being absorbed by a new species of technorganic aliens that inadvertently create the Borg in a clusterfuck of predestination paradoxes.... why do the Star Trek novels have good starts and shitty endings. At least the new Star Trek: Prey trilogy was good.

Might just be the trekkies I know then, lol...

Anyways, I haven't read it yet, but I picked up issue #6 today (came out last week, but I have it in my pull list). I was in a bit of a rush, so I wasn't paying attention and forgot to switch out the variant cover I was given for the main cover. Normally not an issue, but I vastly prefer the look of the normal covers for this series. That and the variants so-far have all had the same theme, so it's not like I have the matching covers.

The Jaylah story in issue #5 was really good, and the story for this next arc sounds interesting. That said, I'm curious to see how long this pre-Enterprise-A stuff will last.

I got cover A for both #6 and #7 yesterday and read them last night. Interesting new story arc, though I'm a little dissapointed to see that it'll only last one more issue. It's not bad, but starting with issue #6 the art style took a drastic change.

Also, kinda small spoiler, issue #6 opens with Sulu talking about his husband and daughter. Both not only survived their encounter with the Borg, but were also unscathed from the incident. The Borg apparently "didn't have time" to start assimilating them. I'm glad they didn't kill the two off, but the explanation is a bit weak imo.

I've been hesitant to bump the thread, but figured... why not? Stil a strong ongoing imo, but it's certainly not for everyone. Past couple of issues have been one-offs, and I think the next two are as well. In October they'll be startin up a six issue story arc dealing with the Star Trek multiverse. Each issue apparently has a focus on a different universe.

While not related to Boldly Go, IDW has finally started talking about their plans for Star Trek Discovery comic books. Instead of doing an ongoing, like they've been doing for the Kelvin movies, their plan is to do a bunch of miniseries. The first is a 4 issue series that starts up in October and focuses on the Klingons. I've been trying to stay away from miniseries in individual issues, but this is something I might add to my pull list... maybe.
