I'm loving this figure. I actually like the bigger arm cannon compared to the dinky one on the voyager. There's a scene in the movie when Megatron is sitting and Barricade comes to visit where the arm cannon shoots out a flame and appears to have a similar function as the springloaded gimmick on this figure.

Also, a flame effect of his can stay put in voyager Grimlock's mouth and it looks pretty good.

Pardon my french, I'm talking about the hollowed out arms that make it look odd when presented. I looked over other posts and that one thread with the Voyager vs Leader comparison. I'm still won over by the Voyager class Megatron, but I'm hoping to catch it at a cheaper price to possibly pair him with Calibre Optimus Prime.

I received this guy in the mail a few nights ago and was so dissapointed that I planned to write a very negative review. He feels light and flimsy, his construction is not as good as the Voyager's, the cannon gimmick is touchy, and the transformation is (relatively) uninventive. But... I kept coming back to the figure enjoying it despite the shortcomings. I couldn't figure out why, but today I realized:this is the Megatron I would have gone nuts for when I was 8 years old.

He's big. His jet mode looks great. He has a clicky spring mechanism that springs back and forth. His head transforms. HE SHOOTS FLAMES. He looks badass.

The voyager is all the things adult collectors want: good scale, accurate robot mode, well-built, inventive transformation, and as someone who makes the money that has to be spent to buy a toy, it's the value option. Better quality for half the price? Yes please.

But the kid in me doesn't care about that. He cares that the space-jet is swooshable. He cares that this guy could beat up all the other smaller guys. He cares that he SHOOTS FLAMES. THAT IS BADASS.

I've gone back and forth on which toy I prefer. I don't feel like I should like the leader better but I do. I wish it were as well made as the Voyager, I wish it had a better transformation, and I wish it didn't cost so damn much - but the inner child has spoken.

Are the people having issues with the cannon gimmick having legitimate QC issues or are they unaware of the locking mechanism?

The trouble with the locking mechanism is it's very touchy. The barrel of the cannon doesn't really lock in in either position so it has a lot of play in its retracted state. That means it's very easy to dislodge and accidentally trigger the springs.

Plus, on mine at least, the rubber tips of the jet nose were warped out of the package and refused to tab together. Some hot water and superglue later it holds really well, but you shouldn't have to fix a factory defect to get a basic play function working right on a toy.

So it is a QC thing then. Mine works, really solidly clicks retracted. I talked to one guy who was literally just trying to cram it shut without doing the barrel slide, so I didn't know if it was a common misconception.

If you are having trouble with the locking mechanism, you can tighten the screws in the grey plastic directly underneath the canopy. It really helped mine.

I have tried tightening the screws and it works for the right side of the cannon but not the left,I cant get it anymore tighter. The left side still is on a hair trigger, while the right side doesnt move at all. The cannon itself is a lot more snug now.

    Just got one today.
It's good, but I do think the Voyager is better.
The cockpit on mine is pretty tight. I think the trick is to make sure to keep the cannon part in the right so to hold the trigger releases

Mine was the same way. I ended up loosening them back up and going the super glue route instead. (Not on the hinges, but on the tab in the nosecone.)

wow, well put. that definitely pushes me more towards the voyager, especially since the leader won't scale well with MPM prime. also since i don't really play with my toys besides transforming them.

Is the fusion cannon barrel supposed to just slide loosely in and out? I'm trying to pose him shooting upward, but the barrel is so loose that it just slides back into the cockpit area. Is my figure missing a spring or something?

Once I tightened the screws like Swoop said the cannon was a lot snugger and no sliding anymore.

Mine does not slide unless I want it to. It was actually quite tight out of the box.

Thanks, that worked perfectly! I misread Swoop's post and thought it was just for the nosecone tightness, but it's tightened up everything real good. Maybe someone on the assembly line set the torque on their screwdriver a little low.

Yes, you're the ONLY person in this entire thread that has espoused that sentiment. NO ONE else has said something similar. You are the FIRST ever with that feeling.

Do people read these threads or do they just post? Probably the latter

    Haha look at this guy.

This statement wasn't meant to be literal if it wasn't clear, it was sentimental to the fact.

I do have one annoyance with this figure, his outward hips appear to be molded to have soft ratchets, but none are present.

    They are simple pin rivets.

This means his outwards hip motion is relatively loose when weight is on them.

Got mine today. It's cool, but at the same time, nowhere near as cool as the Voyager version. Wei Jang's win... that is, until they release an improved version of this mold!
