After TLK there's no telling how much different the new transformers will change as time goes by.

It's rumored that the Bumblebee film will evoke more of the original designs of the 80's. (video below)

    变形金刚_G1风格_恐龙岛_CG演示

Aside from action and explosions, Michael Bay at least strived in delivering the most realistic looks out of the cybertronians. Overall I will miss that style very much.

With the the recent domestic reception of TF5, a lower budget for the new movie, Bay may never return as a director.

With new directors in control, the aesthetic quality of the characters is unknown. :drunk

Did you like Bay's direction for the designs of his transformers? Or you can't wait for a change? Post your thoughts

I like them. The designs have a good balance of both alien and machine.

I loved Lockdown and Hot Rod, liked the new Prime more than the older one. A big fan of Drift, so I say no to a G1 design.

Yes and no. I liked them better when they were more alien and less humanoid. So movies 1-3 are what I like. While I do like AOE Hound, both his and Drift's faces are way too human for my liking. I also prefer when the bot mode had vehicle parts that you could see on them, you know, when they looked like they could actually turn into their alt modes.

I like the designs in the first trilogy. The AOE and TLK designs are a little too 'human' for my liking.

I LOVE them and definitely will miss them if they change it. In fact, what attract me to this franchise is their robot design. Indeed like some people here, I too prefer the first trilogy design. They don't try too hard to look like an actual human. I find the first trilogy design to be more interesting to look at and more subtle at poking familiar human clothing and equipment. They don't scream at you "HEY! Look I have a trenchcoat" or "Hey look at me wearing samurai armor". The first trilogy would have handled it with more finesse, such as Sentinel Prime knight look. They also came with an interesting take on Starscream, albeit controversial within the fandom. He's an aerial bot, so it make sense to me that he has that aves digitigrade legs and then stocky ape-like upper body to accommodate his acrobatic feat.

But if they will change it to look like the original cartoon, I think a little bit slimmer version of WFC/FOC design is a good change. I find their limbs to be to big like I mean they clip constantly when they move! :lol  They are like the Gears of War of Transformers.

Nope, the movie aesthetic was an over designed mess. That said, anyone clamouring for a G1 aesthetic in a live action movie is fucking bonkers. I don't want to see a blocky toy that cost hundreds of thousands to animate

I really did like some of the creative designs the movies employed and some of the new looks for the old characters (I really dig the monocle look on Ravage!).

I think that Bayformers had one of the more creative designes since Beast Wars and Beast Machines. There was visible size difference between Transformers, they had asymmetrical, bipedal and quadrupedal bodies. Multiple optics and servos. Some of them walked on wheels and some only had wheels to move around (Rampage, Arcee). I really did like the departure from the blocky bipedal forms of G1 and Unicron Trilogy.

I have nothing against simplifying the designes, but I wouldn't like them to end up looking like humans wearing boxy armor.

I loved them initially when the first movie came out but the fact they keeep changing for no apperant reason is just...sigh. What happened to the protoforms, they keep forgetting about stuff from previous movies and it's unexceptable!

    i will miss them aswell.

a more humanoid form is cool and all for the autobots, but what i did like from the 2007 and ROTF decepticons was that where less conventional with their robot modes. (demolishor, rampage, that weird reedman thing etc). (shame that they had nothing but dying to do).

what would have been awsome to see was that devcon decepticon in the movies. awsome concept but was never used.

also the more alien-esque design make for more intresting toys. (demolishor, rampage, mixmaster).

i hope future movies will still use more alien looking decepticons but without having them just be idiotic dying monsters.

I love these aesthetics all the way but maybe cover up some areas with complicated 1000 pieces with medium size panels or car pieces.

I love the overall aesthetic, for me, it looks highly believable for the Transformers being a mechanical alien race.

What I hate, and I've said this countless times already, is the overly human designs we've got in AoE and TLK. To me, it just makes no sense that an advanced life form, who can turn themselves in virtually anything, would choose to mimic humans.

The beauty about other franchises like Star Wars or the recent Valerian movie, is that there are diverse races, factions and groups, each with their distinct looks, mannerisms and culture. You really get the sense that these groups, evolving and developing far far apart, turned out really different. Each feels alien to another.

For Transformers, I really liked the TF1 and RoTF designs. While they drew inspiration from certain things, the designs were still creative and original. But I was really disappointed that this approach was changed to copying human pop culture for the later movies. It turned the robots from menacing powerful aliens, into cartoonish caricatures.

I like them a lot. They really nailed the whole alien aesthetic, they really look like they're from another planet and not some giant toys which is basically what they are in the cartoons.

My problem was never the designs, it was the fact they weren't on-screen enough for the films to truly be called "Transformers".

I do like some of the Bayformers designs, but I'm also enjoying seeing a smoother, more cohesive design.
And some characters like Starscream and Megatron were just hilariously, and poorly designed

The scrap metal designs looked brittle and confusing.
I think the confusing jumble of scrap did serve a purpose at first. The 3d animators at the time has never done a live action 3d Transformer before, and needed to make it move like humans, run, jump. And I think the messy, and sloppy design we're meant to be confusing (and don't forget the motion blur) to hide from the audience how inexperienced they were for making a good Transformer.

Now that the animators have more experience they're cleaning up and steam lining these messy scrap metal designs.

But I won't miss them. They're just not iconic enough to stick around for much longer.

I loved the aesthetic from the first 3 movies. Those designs were so well done. The way they integrated vehicle mode parts looks so good. The later movies (AOE and TLK) lost that appeal to me. I don't like the more organic and humanoid looking bots.

They're aliens after all. I'd want them to look that way.

Despite not liking the movies themselves, I am fond of the aesthetic of the first three movies. Unfortunately, AOE and TLK had designs that got rid of a lot of alt-mode kibble and were pretty bland. I'm all for streamlining designs, but you shouldn't remove 80% of the vehicle mode's parts from the robot mode. Vehicle kibble is often an iconic part of a character, like G1 Prowl's door wings; without vehicle mode kibble, Transformers would look too similar.
