I think the real problem is Sega of Japan. Apparently SOJ has been kinda racist towards its western audience, and even its American branch, in the past. For example, in they restricted Phantasy Star Online 2 to Japanese players in 2012. There's also a cancelled Sonic game called Sonic X-treme from 1996, that was being developed with the engine from NiGHTS, until Yuji Naka got upset and took the engine away from the American team. Even if Sega of America is fine with the FF, SOJ may not want any "foreign" influence in their property, even though they own the characters, because they tend to be petty jerks. If that seems extreme, I'd like to remind you that Sega doesn't want to make any indication that the cast has aged, going so far as to retcon Classic Sonic from Sonic's younger self to being from another dimension.

Overseas Players No Longer Welcome in Phantasy Star Online 2

Pretty much. Ironically Sonic doesnt do well in Japan which is funny that they try to keep him japan centered. Boom, at least the cartoon, is highly regarded and its western based so its strange they havent picked up on that.

Perhaps to Japan Sonic is viewed upon as something that's mostly comedic despite having action moments and not like a straightforward action hero like he is in America which I think the reason why the Sonic Boom cartoon does well over there is because the style and humor it goes for appeals to them far more. Sort of like how Transformers is viewed as some more kiddish in Japan.

Terrific, IDW will run Sonic into the ground the same way they've handled Transformers, with eight titles a month, poorly held together continuity issues and above all the price for each issue will be 5$ a pop instead of the cheaper prices Archie had them at.

If IDW continues the series from where Archie left off I might be interested, but if they're just going to give us a rehash reboot after the last reboot with too many comics to keep up with I'm afraid I'm going to have just cancel the books.

I am adapting a wait and see attitude for the time being, but quite frankly I do not have high hopes. Considering the mess they've turned the Transformers/Hasbroverse into and the fact that there's a plethora of characters and arcs to deal with now, it's definitely not something I'll be into I'd wager. They couldn't even keep Jem going, instead they rebooted it with another Number 1 issue for a six-issue mini-arc between Jem and The Misfits title they created and who knows if it will continue past that.

When Archie drops the ball someone else will pick it up and run with it.

If you're going to criticize IDW's comics you could at least read IDW's comics.

I have read them, I stopped before Dark Cybertron for money reasons and because I wasn't getting anything out of it anymore, and now I've seen a lot going on that I personally don't find enjoyable for my money. Quite frankly I don't need to read any of the current stuff to criticize them, I still get Jem for however long that lasts and I still pick up My Little Pony because they haven't shoehorned it into the Hasbroverse. I would have kept going with G.I.Joe if I hadn't lost complete interest in it because of the dark and gritty reboot syndrome they were working with in a more realistic world.

I'm hoping for a TMNT style reboot, that takes influences from all incarnations. I would be specifically interested in something more in line with the British Sonic The Comic.

I command this thread to rise from the dead so I may deliver some information regarding IDW Sonic the Hedgehog.

    1) No Archie characters are to appear. No Egg Bosses or any other character introduced in the previous comic series are barred from appearing due to interest in having a fresh start. These characters will sorely be missed.
    2) Freedom Fighters are uncertain to appear. This does not confirm their removal or their inclusion. It is simply too soon to inform.
    3) Sonic might be closer to his game depiction than before. This is troubling as in the games he does not react beyond joking about everything he sees. Hopefully this proves untrue and the blue pin cushion can lose every now and again.

It was most of the post-Dark Cybertron stuff where the series under IDW gained a new identity and direction, and the series started picking up some writing acclaim from the comic industry in general...

IDW getting Sonic is cool, though I'm not sure it gives me incentive to catch up on 25 years of books.

I don't think you'll have to worry about that. They're starting fresh and leaving everything before hand behind them.
