For me, it doesn't matter how many total, it's if they're characters. One BB who really is the main character beats the heck out of a half-dozen bots who aren't.
Since the Hollywood arms race of we can sell movies on nothing but the spectacle of how much money we can throw at the special effects budget. There was this school of thought that every other factor of a movie didn't matter as long as you could throw $200 million plus at the production of the movie. Avatar wasn't a very good movie but those special effects made for an insane box office run so the thought was hey if Avatar can break the box office with bad story, boring characters, and top notch effects then anything with top notch effects can break the box office. It's only as big budget films started to fail and modest budget movies were turning into profit makers that studios started come around to the idea of you can't just throw money at the problem of how do we get people to watch our movie. Warner Brothers tossed $250 million at Batman v Superman to see a domestic run of $330 million, they scaled back the budget on Wonder Woman to $149 million and made it more about making Wonder Woman a likeable character instead of spectacle and the domestic run is standing at $385 million.
I don't care about the budget. I just want a good transformer movie. Hopefully the tone and pace of this movie are a far cry from TLK which left my brain fried.
on the soundwave thing, soundwave def personally interacted with Dylan Gould, his father, and others in this timeframe. Now could he have spent most of it in space with LB playing liason? For sure, with the budget, that might be the case with Soundwave maybe only making a \"grand entrance\" towards the climax of BB. But Laserbeak v BB for most of the film is a snooze fest and someone as apt as Travis Knight will know that. I\'m gonna wager if Soundwave is the hook they use he\'s prob gonna have one or two proper-sized agents on Earth. Starscream? Bonecrusher? Blackout? Shockwave? Someone new? Who really knows. I\'m cautiously hyped tho
A part of why the budget is lower than TF 1-5 is because they are keeping the filming locations in California than having them worldwide. It costs a good amount of money to transport vehicles overseas.
Seriously, news reports about Bumblebee Movie are written in a manner that annoys me. I'm not against this Movie, but these words like "No Baysplosions" or No globetrotting" sounds like new Movie will be good, because of that. And like others were bad. Millions of people enjoy TF-Movies, TLK is worse, yeah, but it doesn't spoil TF1-4 which were SUCCESSFUL. And you constantly say about critics opinion, I can't understand, why it's important (By the way, I have seen good reviews about AOE&DOTM in english and russian). You can write a review about camera, blender or even a car, but not about the FILM! It's an art! If critics think bad about the film, you'll always think the same? Normal people don't care. Everyone has own taste and opinion. For all my adult life 95% of my acquaintances think that I'm crazy, because I'm astronomer, TF-fan, travel alone around the world, hate Putin and etc. Why I must care, what they think? It's just my way to be happy!
If you are talking about the News Post regarding this topic on this site then you read it wrong . The news post brings up "no globetrotting" and "no baysplosions" because those are things that cost money which this film does not have much of. The film has been said to be filmed exclusively in California which means they do not need to spend the money on transportation, and since the movie is much smaller in scale there won't be a need for the amount of Baysplosions in the other films. The news post isn't saying the movie will be fantastic because there is no globetrotting or baysplosions. Just optimistic that this film may be different because of a new director with a good background and a smaller budget. I don't let critics dictate which movie I see or don't see either, but they do play a role in making a movie look good or bad and it does affect some people's decision on seeing the movie or not.
So? The movies are known for spending big and ultimately not delivering in full on the CGI aspect, usually blowing it all on white elephant show pieces. Given what little CGI ultimately we GOT when the budget was in the hundreds of millions, how sparse is it going to be this time with less than $100 million?
Very, very true. Thank you. Yes, the intention was to point out why a small budget would fit this movie.
well they did say that the robot cast would be very small. i'm not going to be a downer but since paramount is still the studio behind it i would say that even if bumbeblee gets ton's of screen time the rest of the already small robot cast will be background characters aswell. you know since we always NEED humans for some reason ... makes me wonder if paramount will be the studio behind the sybertron prequel how they will handle the fact that no humans can be in that film.
I knew it would be low but $70 million...yikes. I'm guessing a 1.5 hour movie than. Also TLK is not tanking. Tanking would mean Completely out if U S theaters in 2 weeks. Make it to 4 and it did good, which it's almost there. Some countries just got the movie. Personally I see this as a sign people saying enough Bay though oddly enough these movies give him the most money. Compare the rating and earning if transformers film to his other work. I say if 6&7 do as bad then yeah time to end
I think most of the human cast will get 20 minutes screen time. This is the bumblebee movie so yeah most likely few transformers besides him.
TBF, that's mostly because of Bay's total mismanagement of budget and effects. He's famous for poorly budgetting and planning these sorts of things. Maybe I'm just desperate for hope that a new director could produce a superior movie for once, but perhaps the lower budget will put less focus on set pieces, and more focus on characters. The CGI actually isn't the most expensive part. Rendering a robot just sitting there talking isn't anywhere near as expensive as rendering half a city blowing up with a tonne of shit rigged and wired in between. Sentinel Prime discussing the space bridge with Mearing likely cost far, far less than the Dreads' highway chase scene.
That's exactly how I feel. There are so many times Bay inserts a lot of unneeded things into his productions. The human cast members who are there for laughs, the random robots that run around only to disappear later, the explosions that are not needed and all that world travelling. As much as I respect Bay, you can honestly see a lot things that could be removed from his TF movies. I hope I can see a better management of the money here.
Even movies that do horrible never get tossed out in two weeks, and I can't think of a single movie that was off in 4. The Mummy is still (barely) in theaters after 6 weeks and domestically it did worse than TF.
