I have started to apply the stickers. I love applying stickers. But these are a bit of a pain. Very flimsy with powerful glue and not quite the right shape to fit the intended areas.

Still a small niggle compared to what some people seem to be finding.

At least mine doesn't seem to have an autodesruct fitted to his hips!

What a fucking disappointment. Even after trimming the spring, the hips are STILL warping the cross piece.

I can't believe the quality control ball was dropped THIS badly on one of the biggest releases. Gg Hasbro

I'm hoping BBTS let's me return it for store credit. I really don't want another one.

Good heavens, what are people doing to him? Long story short; mine is completely stock; and even after several transformations in the course of stickering him; both crosses on mine were still both pristine. Granted I've transformed him twice more since then, but I don't see the need to open them up again...

I got mine in today. I tried turning the hips and it took way more force than I was comfortable with so I went in and trimmed the springs down by 1/4 and that seemed to fix it. Now I just need to fix the chest and I will love him and call him George. That said, it is disappointing that such a big release is having so many problems. It seems that ever since Hasbro changed to factories in Vietnam the amount of QC issues have increased.

Love this figure. The QC issues are a serious subtraction though.

Update: Did some work on the legs and chest. I was able to fix SOME of the niggling issues, but there are still some problems. I'm willing to forgive them though as this figure is just damn impressive.

So I've finally found some time to open up trypticon..... His tail that is!

    Oh

    My

    God!

Look at the size of this ratchet tooth![IMG]

There is a HUGE spring for the pressure.... (Sorry bad pic)

And here is the inside cross price for the ratchet...

I know I know.... Crap pics... But I only have limited time for having a guy like this unscrewed

Now the pictures are done.... Some words to go with it.

Mine (and many others) have a huge clunk noise when the tail is moved, and then the tail doesn't hold in "dino mode".

The clunk you would think is the ratchet.... But it's not. The cross piece that is supposed to hold the ratchet in place only has a couple of mm of grab into the ratchet. The noise is this jumping/snapping/clunking out of the ratchet piece, and the fact that there is a spring means the ratchet peices can be pushed out of the way so the tail can move.

Not here's the kicker. One plain of the cross is uniform:

    lllllllllllllllllllll
    :::::::::::::
    OOOOOOOO

The other plain is not: (trying a few symbols to try and say what I mean)

    iiiillllllllllllliiii
    ....::::::::::....
    __---------__

This means that the "clunk" is this cross piece coming out of the ratchet, and when you rotate it two things:

The tail doesn't move far enough (90 deg) to get to the other slot.
There is a circle moulded with/around the ratchets cross (picture a circle with a cross in it) so the uniform plain can't "fall" into place as it is always touching the circle.

My tail come out of box floppy. Now I'm terrified that the issue is an internally broken piece.

My tail only stays up in city mode and doesn't stay back for Dino mode. That's how mine was out of the box. It still has that click in between modes. I just looked at optibotimus' review again and his tail stays up when he moves it back. Yet another thing I have to fix on this guy.

I finally got mine fixed. I just filed down the ratchet teeth on both pieces and, while his leg is a bit looser than I would like, I can move it again.
Still hesitant on stickering him up though.

I just fixed the tail on mine. All you have to do is glue the disk with the four teeth on it to the post it tabs onto (the whole problem is because it can move) and lube the ratchet a little.

Moves smooth and locks in both positions now. It used to make a loud snap when moving it, no more. If yours snaps, you NEED to fix it, or it will break eventually.

I used some silicone spray I had laying around.

Anything will work, graphite, olive oil, etc. Just something non-reactive.

If it's a bit floppy, just tighten that single main screw connecting the tail to the body a bit and you'll be golden.

Not really, there's six screws total (I think). You have to take the tail tip off to get to to a hidden screw underneath one of the arms it swings on.

Adding more fuel to the QC fire, I opened mine up and he has several broken teeth, some kind of stressed or melted spots near his jaw joint, and a break with stress marks on top of his chest plate. Thankfully no ratcheting issues yet. I'm hoping to send these images to Hasbro directly. I don't hold TFSource responsible for these problems.

So I got this guy finally.

Before I assembled him, I did a modified hip fix. I opened up the joint, took out the spring, and put some cardboard from the BBTS shipping bos between the two ratchet teeth. I then reassembled the joint. It seems to work well enough for now. Good for display, probably not for play. However I inspected the hip joint (attached to the legs). A 3P could easy fix this. THe entire unit can be removed with a few screws. I wouldn't be shocked to see a Perfect Effect kit soon or something.

The QC on this guy is utterly atrocious. The springs on the hip joint... pictures don't do them justice. These should be in a bed or a car's shocks or something. WHen I opened the joint, the spring was so strong that everything inside basically exploded all over the room. The first time I'm lucky I didn't take my eye out. Any Trypticon with this spring in it will have a destroyed joint before too long. It's not just few. It's all of them that have it. This spring has no business being in this toy. I don't think a plastic exists that would be compatible with it. The entire teal piece would have to be die-cast or something.

How strong is it? If I put my hand on top of it and rest, it barely compressed the spring. You could put a few text books on this thing probably.

My teal chest beast (where Full tilt connects) was warped. The door wont stay closed because it isn't a flat piece. . Will probably just used double sided tape.

Full Tilt has stress marks on his legs.

That being said, this guy is *awesome* none the less. His base mode is enormous. His space ship mode is super solid and heavy. His dinosaur mode is amazing.

Trypticon is a an incredible figure bogged down by a terrible factory. If Takara redesigns the hip joint even minorly, itll fix every issue (this is not unprecedented... Legends Fort Max had significantly better QC than TR Fort Max).

I'd get him, but buy him knowing you'll need to remove the spring, period, and probably buy the inevitable 3P kit.

For collectors who don't mind using a Phillips head and some scissors for 10 minutes, Trypticon is fine as is. For a kid to play with, Hasbro is fucking its customers. Every kid who buys Trypticon will have wrecked hips inside of a few plays, easily. It needs to be fixed.
