Yep ! Omar Sy was so good :3

 

I don't really have much to say about Hot Rod. Design wise, he doesn't stand out a lot(the downward door wings are kinda cute though); it doesn't scream "Hot Rod," but I only care if his character is an interesting iteration of Hot Rod. Unfortunately, I can't really say he is or isn't faithful to his G1 personality because he really didn't have much of one. He's kind of just another soldier so far, but at least his time gun is unique. It's really out of place and totally unnecessary, but it's refreshing.(I'm sure Cade and Vivian only needed to be saved by him for the sake of showing off the time gun again) I love how hammy he gets whenever he uses it, too. "MY WEAPON WILL STOP THE TIME!!"

With Unicron on the rise, TF6 is Hot Rod's chance to be interesting, but we've all been let down by our expectations before.

That is a good point. Aside from the AoE guys, even Cogman was violent and itching for a fight half the time.(even if that was the joke) I think the last Autobot who was this personable in the movies was Ratchet, and he just doesn't have the spark that he used to anymore.

I love Hot Rod, he's funny and like-able.

Yeah, some people just need to complain.

He though do have a couple of traits identical to the other universe (G1) self; They are both impulsive and love fast cars.

 

I cant be the only one who noticed that the "she very difficult" was different voice actor right?

Seriously this movies, it feel like its just doesn't care about editing and continuity. 250 million dollar movie ...

 

Didn't like the G1 Hot Rod, but loved the one in TLK.

He was quirky and cute.

'She's very difficult!' was clearly Mark Ryan's voice and not Omar Sy's.

Other than that, eh. At least he's cool, I guess.

I usually don't mind when the designs have nothing in common with G1, but I admit that even this was pushing it. Not helped by the fact his robot mode was plain as hell. Just.. unremarkable. At least give him a chevron or shoulder wings? Meh.

Personality wise, he was alright if again, plain. Just a generic nice guy, kinda like the OT Autobots. I did like that he genuinely doted on Viviane and personally saved Sqweeks during the final battle. The time gun was cool, especially when it saved Hound.

Early on in production I got a TFP Smokescreen vibe from him, partially thanks to having a plain design. In the film proper, he was pretty irrelevant, just like how TFP Smokescreen became irrelevant as time went on. But hey. Most of the cast of TLK was irrelevant and just another gun. Kinda like how in the last episodes of Prime, all the Autobots just shoot Eradicons with no effort or style whatsoever. Felt that way for the final act of TLK too.

Omar Sy is always a treat, though.

 

I liked him well enough. He wasn't in much though I can tell he has some of the classic character elements from the G1 version personality wise.

 

Well, personally, I was worried he would be really obnoxious badass "cool" character, especially paired with Bumblebee.
But the sort of awkward french swashbuckler thing he had going on, while taking me by surprise, I was okay with it.
The time gun thing is ridiculous though, we haven't seen overpowered weapons like that before, and now here's a random autobot grunt with such a crazy piece of tech? It's like watching the G1 cartoon, and "here's a new really powerful ability that shows up just when needed and disappears."

 

He was one of the very few likable autobots, so that's good. I was expecting to be annoyed by the accent but it was pretty cute. He was a Citroen DS which I am extremely excited about and I hope it opens the way for a whole bunch of 60s and 70s beautiful car transformers - but there was no transformation and no robot mode   and no toy    
The Lamborghini car and robot modes were dull, especially the face scuplt. The toy looks just as dull.
The time gun was a ridiculously overpowered weapon - just put the bad guys in that for the duration of the movie et voila! And because it was so overpowered, it was massively underused, just for cinematic effect - so it looked great but made not much sense.

 

I love his phrase when he is about to shoot with his time gun "my weapon will stop the time"

 

Allowed Optimus to have enough time to catch cade and Vivian and stop them from dying

 

I don't really remember the final battle that much but I'd say that they could still have made that scene work by writing it a little bit differently (without the time gun). So I'd still say his gun is just a neat feature that doesn't really contribute much to the plot.

 

I guess that's another proof of that Paramount and Hasbro has listened to the G1 fans. After all, the fans constantly says; Make it more G1. Now Paramount and Hasbro has.

and I think again during the fight, but I can't remember if it was before or after Cade got kicked up to Vivianne (ow!)
