Jesus, the best thing Pascal ever did was getting her inept hooks in all things Spidey related just as her ass was getting kicked out of the Sony door. I feel bad for Feige for having to concede to and continue putting up with her idiocy for sake of getting Spidey in the MCU. That guy really took a bullet for us.
VENOM Will Reportedly Feature Ann Weying, AKA She-Venom, And Take Inspiration From ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN
Well, in the recent cartoon they changed the bio weapon to being created by Ock and Norman... but they still needed Peter's DNA.
So not connected to Spider-Man or the MCU, and based on the shit version that's even more dependant on Spider-Man existing. I have a feeling we're being trolled hard.
Unless they come up with a completely new origin for the film (and that never works well) there's just no way they can completely remove Peter from Venom's origins. I too think someone is trolling hard and thay we might just find out at SDCC.
What's funny about this it's that the original concept for Venom was that it was originally going to be a woman playing the character. Interesting to see the concept be brought back again in some manner.
I stille wonder why the hell they're not making it an Agent Venom movie. It's like that interpretation was made explicitly to be turned into a stand alone Venom movie. You can even hold off on Eddie Brock as Venom and still have it work. It would give the symbiote taking to Spiderman so well and then feeling rejected even more weight too, since it was previously used just as a weapon that was not allowed to run free.
Agent Venom is relatively new in terms of source material - while Marvel is now adapting newer storylines like Civil War and parts of Planet Hulk, many films are still adapting stories written in the 60s, 70s, or 80s. And Sony is pretty unsure of itself. Take the Homecoming trailers - they needed to emphasize that it's an MCU film, to the point of minimizing the roles of Vulture and Spidey. Sony won't spend a dime on a someone else's take when they could make a safe bet and adapt the publicly recognized version. I also doubt any of Sony's decision makers - Pascal, Rothman, etc - are aware of Agent Venom.
Sony's Venom Will Draw on Carpenter or Cronenberg I’ve always been drawn to the more antihero superheroes,” explained director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad). “There’s a dark element to [Venom] and a wit that has always appealed to me.” He elaborated on the almost Jekyll-and-Hyde dynamic in the relationship between Brock and the symbiote. “They become almost a third being, which is what Venom is.” Well, that sounds okay. He at least knows his material.

New 'Venom' Photo Features Tom Hardy, Filming Begins On Spider-Man Spinoff Whatever you like it or not, it has begun
All I'm interested in right now is how Venom is going to look. As much as Sam Raimi disliked the character, the symbiote and Venom himself looked cool IMO.
