Honestly, I enjoyed this issue. Really liked how it ended. Spoiler RIP Sideswipe. You will be missed. Also, my digital copy includes the Rom vs Transformers preview, with 2 extra pages that I haven't seen before featuring Stardrive, the Cybertronian Solstar Knight. EDIT: Also like seeing the small cameos from Megadeath, G1 versions of Movie Skids and Mudflap, and Killer Punch, among others.
Started strong, 3/4 in I was like "this is kinda corny and ham" then I hit the last bit and like ;_; dug it
Yup, did not see that coming. I knew it was building toward *something* - there was a lot of blunt repetition - but I wasn't sure what. Then Sunstreaker's dialogue seemed to be all off, and, well, turned out there was a good reason for that. Genuinely affecting, in part because the solicitations have done a good job for months in setting up the wrong expectations.
Yep, was genuinely surprised at how that ended. Nice work Barber. Spoiler RIP Sideswipe. Now his injuries in the conquerors arc don't feel as such a fake out, cause it led to this.
Me Sad. But it plays well into my usual remarks how much time Barber takes with his arcs to get to the end because if it wasn't one of the most prolonged character death arcs I saw... Certainly I did not see it coming.
Maybe I'm jumping the gun because it's early in the day, and even earlier for the Americans, but how come this thread isn't on fire? This was as much of a jawdropper as we're ever going to get in Transformers fiction.
Any thoughts on who Arcee's brother is? Spoiler My guess is that its going to be revealed as Galvatron in the next arc
I initially thought she was speaking allegorically in reference to Hardhead, THEN I thought she was just making it up completely as part of the story ("I don't know how to start a story except with losing someone"), but given that the next issue is a flashback to those times, I imagine he probably IS real and we'll see him soon...
I did not see that coming. RIP Sideswipe, I don't even want you to be revived again. You character arc was just beautiful. "I wish I had more guns... but I guess I always do. They'll carve that on my tombstone"
Damn I was not expecting to feel these feels Up there with TAAO #10 as the best issues of the year. The misdirection, both in-story and meta (the fact that Sideswipe's revival was depicted exactly like Wheeljack's did a great job setting up expectations), was very well done and I did not see the twist coming at all. Definitely up there as some of Barber's best work.
As someone who keeps his 'bots organized by where they are in comics, the last issues of this and LL are making me move them around more than I'd like. Still, this was a great book.
I never really cared much for Sideswipe yet I was still genuinely sad for him after reading this issue. And I think this might be my favourite issue of OP so far. Well done, Barber. R.I.P Sideswipe
I assumed it was Hardhead too at first, but on finishing the issue, I took it as her secretly talking about Sideswipe.
Yep, this issue left me stunned. It's been a long time since a TF comic has done that. So Arcee and Sideswipe came to see each other as siblings before the end, moreso than Sideswipe and his actual spark twin... I likes that idea. Yeah, Barber knocked it out the park with this issue, and no mistake. And can we all take a moment to appreciate how glorious Kei Zama's art was? She's right up there with Alex Milne and Geoff Senior, as far as I'm concerned.
